o HEADING HOME Olga Lewis holds a smiling son, Gary,
20-ionths, alter being reunited with him at St. Vincent's
Orphanage in Chicago. Olga's estranged husband. Harold,
took Gary from their San Gabriel, Cal.. Jan. 27 and went
to Chicago where he allegedly called Olga and threatened
to blow up himself and the child. Authorities gave Gary
back to his mother. They are now on their way back to
. California.
Many Activities Set
For Boy Scout Week
''Building for a better tomor
row" is the theme for Boy
Scout Week, starting today.
The 3,410 Cubs, Scouts and
Explorers of the Crater Lake
Area council will join with the
2,000,000 other boys through
out our country in celebrating
their 45th anniversary begin
ning today with Scout Sunday.
They will attend the church of
their, own choice in uniform.
Many churches are conducting
special Scout services.
Displays of Scouting skills,
put in many stores in a window
display "contest. Ray Johnson is
again heading the judging com
mittee in the Big Pines district,
according to R. D. Church, dist
rict chairman. The window
judging was- completed Satur
day and the winners of the
grand champion, superiors, ex
cellents and participation rib
bons will be announced at the
district court of honor Wednes-
' day evening.

Mrs. Hazeldean Hohensee, Mrs.
Ethel Chastain, Hal Bishop, Miss

7:30 p.m. in the Girls gym in the
Medford Junior High school. N.
H. "Duke" Gladfelter, Big Pines
commissioner, will assist.
All Ranks
Plans have been made for pre
sentation of all the ranks from
second class to eagle.
Ferris Sfimpson of Post 8, Med
ford, will receive his Eagle
award, presented by J. A. Mc
Dougall, council commissioner.
Simpson will be the fourth Ex
plorer Scout to receive his Eagle
badge -in the last two weeks.
Randle Stothers of Air Squadron
14, Troop 8 and Post 8; Bryan
Schroeder of Squadron 14 and
Troop 16, and, Dick Arnold of
Post 3 and Troop 3, have already
been presented the coveted Eagle
badge, the highest award in the
Boy Scout program. Scouts from
Eagle Point, Phoenix, Jackson
ville and Medford will partici
pate in the court.
The Big Pines district commit
tee, the adult Scout leaders of
this area, will hold their regular
district meeting Monday at 7:30
p.m. in the Jackson county hous
ing project community building,
according to Church.
The council executive board
meeting will be held Thursday
at the Medford hotel at 6:30
p.m. for the annual council char
ter review. O. D. Sharpe, re
gional executive, Portland, will
attend the meeting, Dr. Elmo
Stevenson, council president, re
ported. "The area council (Josephine,
Jackson and Siskiyou counties)
made the second biggest gain in
membership in 1954, that it has
made in the history of the Coun
cil," according to H. D. Chris-
tensen, council organization
chairman. "There were 2,972
Cubs, Scouts and Explorers in
111 Cub Packs, -troops and Ex
plorer Posts at the beginning of
1954. There are now 3,410 boys
in 132 units as of the end of the
year.. In the first of 1944 there
were only 950 in 55 units."
Scouts and Cubs are urged to
wear their uniforms during the
week. Parents and friends are
urged to attend the court of
honor Wednesday evening.

GOC Anniversary
Will Be Marked
The first anniversary of the
formal organization of the
Ground" Observers Corps in
Medford will be marked at a
mass meeting here Feb. 21, it
was announced Saturday.
The meeting will be held in
the Veterans of Foreign Wars
hall at 8 p.m. Several Air Force
officers from McChord field,
Portland and Salem, will attend,
and a number of city and coun
ty officials also will be there.
A program will include talks
and a brief ceremony.
The GOC in this area now
numbers some 600 persons, and
it is hoped that more than 300
of them will be able to attend.
At the same time, it was an
nounced, that the VFW has made
its hall available to the GOC for
meetings, and will present a flag
to the organization of sky-watchers.

this, young women the world
over send their names indicating
a wish to correspond with United
States Navy men. In a recent
issue more than 50 per cent of
the girls seeking United States
Navy "pen pals" are residents of
Dublin, Ireland. All are under
25. No photographs accompany
the names but Dublin girls are
famous the world over for their
beauty, intelligence and sense
of humor.
No Complaints
Among the feminine celebri
ties who didn't care what the
newspapers said about her as
long as they spelled her name
right was the picturesque evan
gelist, Aimee Semple McPher
son. She was a firm believer in
the old adage, "Every knock is
boost." In her long career at a
public figure the only complaint
Aimee ever made as to a news
story was when one reporter
said she had thick ankles.
First Baby
Calif ornian says she has been
married eleven years, is 41 and
has yet to have her first baby.
She expresses herself as feeling
her case is "hopeless." It isn't. I
know of many women who have
had their first baby after they
were 40. In fact, I know of a
woman who has been married
many years and was 45 when she
had her first blessed event And
that was a fine healthy pair of
twin boys! "
