Monroe.) A companion measure, also in
troduced by Giesy, would give
union members the right to have
any action of his union reviewed
by a court of competent jurisdic
tion and would make it a mis
demeanor for the union to penal
ize or discipline a member for
exercising that right.
Other bills would provide for
proof of age cards to be issued
by the Oregon Liquor Control
Commission; for a maximum
speed law on Oregon highways;
for a $260,000 program of spec
ial education for mentally re
tarded and educationally ad
vanced children; and for a limit
of one on the number of cam
paign committees a political can
didate may have
Salem (U.R) A bill to legal
ize marriage between white and
non-white persons has been pre
pared for introduction into the
state legislature by Rep. Maurine
Neuberger.
A 1951 law made issues of
such marriages legitimate, but
some lawyers still questioned the
legality of such a marriage.
Rep. Neuberger said she hoped
the matter would be permanent
ly cleared up by the current legislature.

County Dog Licenses
Due, Owners Told
Dee Jones, county dog control
officer, reminded dog owners of
the county that licenses for
, their dogs are now due. Until
: March 1 the fee will be S1.50,
but after that date it will rise
to $3.50. , -
All dogs aged 8 months or
mere must have licenses, he
said.
Licenses are available at the
county court house in Medford;
at the city police station in Ash
land; at Rogue River Feed and
Farm Supply in Rogue River,
and at the Kizzie Edmonson res
idence in Butte Falls.

Salem U.R) The right of
county clerks to issue fishing
and hunting licenses would be
removed under a bill passed by
the state Senate and sent to the
House.
The Senate also passed bills
to allow ice fishing and the use
of nets or seines to catch non
food fish.
Salem U.R) Democrats in
the Legislature introduced in
the House a bill that, if passed,
would put a 30 per cent surtax
on present state income taxes.
The proposal was a key part
of the Democratic tax program
designed to raise Oregon's in
come without resorting to a sales
tax. They would make the tax
boost effective on income earned
from Jan. 1 of this year.

At Jacksonville
Jacksonville the Jackson
ville Lions club held an instal
lation meeting Thursday in the
city's Presbysterian church.
Some 39 persons attended.
Three new members were
taken into the club and five old
members were reinstated. The
new members were Louie Ap
plebaker, Bruce. Blue and Joe
Smith. Eston Humphries, Med
ford, installed the members.
Three past district governors
attended the session and spoke
on Lionism. They were intro
duced by Ike Dunford.
Piano numbers were played
by Miss Marjorie Evans. Floyd
Wyatt was entertainment chair
man and President Gordon Kirk
land presided. A ham dinner was
served.
Two Enter Guilty
Pleas to Charges
Two men entered guilty pleas
in circuit court Friday on dis
trict attorney's information.
John William Axtell, 22, of
212 South Barneburg rd., en
tered his plea on an indecent ex
posure charge. Judge James
Bain, Portland, suspended pas
sage of sentence for two years.
Case of Robert L. Morris, Win
ston, Ore., was continued until
Tuesday for sentencing. He is
charged with obtaining money
under false pretences. His case
involves a $10 check passed at
P. C. Penney company.
