Memories associated .with
pleasant experiences are not eas
ily forgotten. Reminders of hap
py events in the past keep these
memories alive. A widow writes:

have been doing housework

eight years. A few months ago,
he asked me to marry him. He
still has his old love letters
and pictures of himself and his
old girls hung up around the
house, and he also likes those

fashioned and jealous, and

to women. It is a form of com
pensation for his waning sexual

I cannot see that the retention
of old love letters and pictures
will interfere with a happy mar
riage. If they were letters from
and pictures of one girl, or his
former wife, that would be a dif
ferent story. It would mean that
his love for her Was still strong
enough that you would be play
ing second fiddle t6 her if you
married him.
If you want to marry this man,
go ahead and do so. Don't' say
any more about the letters and
pictures.. After, a time, you may
be able to take down the pictures
and put them in a box with the
old love letters in the attic
where he can look at them when
he begins to feel old and unat
tractive. They will . boost his
waning ego but won't hurt you.

Presumably the doctor who
"blasts" me from his place of
concealment expects that by the
sheer weight of his authorita
tive position in the dinky town
where the paper is published his
dicta will prevail and my "unac
cepted" views and teachings will
no longer endanger the public.
To be sure, my column may
disappear from the unidentified
community, but will that make
any difference to people in a
hundred other communities who
will continue to be menaced by
Ol' Dpc Brady and his dangerous
teachings? .
- Take tonsillectomy, for in
stance. Here is what the chief of
the pediatrics department of the
University of Miami's School of
Medicine said about it, at the
recent clinical meeting of the
A M A in Miami:
"A conscientious physician
recognizes the need for an oc
casional tonsillectomy, but all
too often it. is done for no
particular reason."
The pediatrician said the size
of the tonsils means next to
nothing because they are normally-enlarged
in children be
tween, five and eight years of
age.
In this contumacious column
I have cited the observation
made by Dr. Barron of Addison
(not to be confused with Mr.
Roth's Addison Sims of Seattle).
In the routine examination ; of
school children, in the winter
term Dr. Barapn ; and ' other
school physicians." found- most of
the children - had enfarged ton
sils and sent notes to their par
ents suggesting that the tonsils
be removed. Few if any of the
parents followed the suggestion.

the autumn' the same doctors re
examined the children and
were astonished, Dr. Barron re-
