vies was named president of the
Jacksonville council at a meet
ing last week, according to city
officials. i "
- Other appointments included
Carl Hoskins,' sextant, and
Archie Bowman, caretaker of
the - cemetery; Mrs. Ruth Grif
fin, five-year term on the li
brary board; M. L. Tweedy,
three years, and Leon Matheny,
two years. The budget commit
tee', and Frank Carter, police
chief. - Carter. ' had previously
been given a 60-day temporary
appointment. : - -
Mayor John Keaveny was
given authority, to negotiate
with the appropriate federal ag
ency to secure aid in conduct

The annual dinner meeting of
the Medford YMCA will be held
Monday, Jan. 24 at the "Y"
Building, 522 West Sixth street,
at 6 p.m. It will -open the ob
servance of - National YMCA
Week here. , - v -
The program will include the
president's , report, . election ' of
directors, 'election 'reports and
installation of new - directors,
recognition ofc volunteer leaders
awards, a financial report, and
a report'on Medford YMCA ac
tivity for the year. v z

Taking - part In the program
will be D. - Ford McCormick,
president; the Rev. Kenneth, F.
Korby, . the Rev. D. Kirkland
West, B. L. Nutting, Ralph Cook,
Stuart . McQueen, Bob Jones,
YMCA general secretary, and
other members of the staff and
volunteer groups. Mrs. Leonard
Matthews will present dinner
music at the' Hammond organ.
Dinner will be served prompt
ly. at 6 p.m., and the meeting
will follow at 7:30. Activities
have been nlanned for children
following the dinner. The meet
ing will adjourn at 9 p.m.
The dinner will begin a week
of emphasis on ' YMCA work.
The "Y" membership campaign
begins the following week, on
Feb. 1.

Frank Bash Named
To Represent UMC
On Oregon Chest
Frank C. Bash, vice-president
and treasurer of . the California
Oregon . Power company," last
week was elected to the board
of directors of the Oregon. Chest
as Jackson county representative
by . the directors of the United
Medford Crusade. ... .-
Bash was a former president
of the Jackson County Commun
ity Chest, the Greater Medford
Community Chest and chairman
of the Medford Plan. -
He is well qualified to serve
the interests of this community
in the state organization with
a familiarity with the various
agencies concerned and the
needs of the county for health
and welfare work, UMC direc
tors said.

. Agencies of the Oregon Chest,
numbering 16, are represented
locally . by the United Medford
Crusade. With the exception of
the United Defense Fund and
the International Social Service
Bureau (which have an even
larger scope), the agencies offer
state wide service in their fields,
and are supported by each coun
ty in relation to the services ren
dered and population. - -
Bash will attend the agency
review 'board in the spring to
investigate the budgets of these
agencies and to recommend their
share of the total budgets as
approved. He has served iri this
capacity in two previous years. :

The council is also considering

' The; council also accepted the
low bid by Shell Oil company
for .regular and Ethyl gasoline.
Bid price was 22.36 cents for
regular , and : 24.26 . cents for.

by Shell and the Ward Sherman
service station, as the city has
no storage facilities and must
use .the station's. . '.
