Sergeant's Wife Raped, Strangled In Florida Home

Police began "rounding up
strangers" today for questioning
about the rape and strangula
tion of an Air Force sergeant's
attractive young wife in a "ter
rific fight" at her home. ,
Authorities said Mrs. Lou El
len Jones, 21, had been dead for
six to 10 hours when S-Sgt. Joe
Jones, 22, found their three-year
old son, Curtis Raymond, trying
in vain to "awaken" his mother.

Sheriff M. J. Daffin said that
neighbors saw a man park his
car at about 9:30 yesterday mor
ning, enter the Jones home, and
later drive away at a "pretty
high speed.

tethered horse trapped above

got caught on the mountainside.

will allow. The horse may have
been tied there and abandoned,
or may. have . fouled, the . rope
while grazing and been unable
to work it free.

mal must die unless: it -is freed
and led down the mountainside.

body in the bedroom when he
returned from ' duty at nearby
Tyndall Air Force base, where
he has been stationed for about

ently, put up a "terrific fight."
He said much of the home was
in disorder, with furniture over
turned, and a vase shattered.

in some 40 states, she said. She
and her husband, now U.S. Sen
ator Richard L. Neuberger, in
troduced a similar bill in the
1953 session when he was state
senator. It passed in the Senate
but died in a House committee.
Cornelius Man Burns
To Death in House Fire
Cornelius (U.R) A 65-year-old
man was burned to
death : Monday afternoon when
the interior of his frame, house
here was destroyed by fire.
Fred Adams, 64, was found
by volunteer firemen on a burn
ing daveno.. Washington county
coroner Graham Young said the
fire was due to smoker's care
lessness. Adams was employed
as a watchman for a local lum
ber company. . :
