Wed Recently
In Seattle
Of interest here is news of
the wedding of Miss Ann Eliza
beth Drysdale, Seattle, to Ralph
.Van Nortwick, Alderwood
Manor, Wash., which took place
January 8 in Trinity Episcopal
church, Seattle. The bride is
the daughter of Eldon M. Drys
dale, formerly of Medford and
now 'of Roseburg, Ore., and a
granddaughter of Mrs. R. H
Paxson, 428 West Fourth st.,
Medford.' The bridegroom is a
son of Mrs- Betty Van Nortwick,
Alderwood Manor.
Pink and white camellias
decorated the church altar for
the service, read by the Rev,
Matthew Bigliardi at three
o'clock in the afternoon. The
reception which followed was
in the parish hall.
The bride's gown was of white
crystalette worn with fingertip
veil, and she carried a white
player book with white camel
lias. Mrs. Robert Wilcox, Medford,
was matron-of-honor for her
sister. Her gown was of bur
gundy colored crystalette and
her flowers were pink and white
camellias.
Mrs. Marvin Rapp, Mrs. Wil
liam Christianson and Miss Anne
Williams also attended the bride.
Their frocks were of moss green
crystalette and they carried bou
quets of pink camellias.
Jack Van Nortwick was best
man for his brother and Robert
Wilcox, Medford, Dr. William
Christianson and Edward Good
rich, Seattle, were ushers.
For the reception were Mrs.
Edward Goodrich and Mrs
Elinor Herbert cut the cake, and
Mrs. Ralph Dolloff and Mrs. Ar
thur Schultz, aunts of the bride,
poured.
The couple . will be at home
after January 17 at 533 Eleventh
Avenue North, Seattle. They
attended Medford High school
and was graduated from Oregon
State college, whore she was a
member of Alpha Xi Delta. The
bridegroom attended Cornish
School of Music and Drama and
Seattle university.
Mrs. Paxson flew to Seattle
to attend the wedding, and also
among the guests were the three
Wilcox children, Ruth, Linda
and Stephen.

Luncheon Given
Mrs. George Lovenborg was
Installed president of the Med
ford Sojourners club Thursday
at a meeting of the group in the
Medffrod hotel. Mrs. D. C. Good
man, Mrs. O. R. Jackson and
Mrs. Lee Willits were the host
esses for a luncheon which pre
ceded the elections. Yellow tu
lips and candles decorated the
luncheon tables and 51 women

first vice-president; Mrs. H. N.
Howard, second vice-president;
Mrs. J. C. Clark, secretary, Mrs.
R. J. McNeil, treasurer, Mrs.
Gene Chamberlain hospitality
chairman; Mrs. Jack Weddle,

Mrs. Earl Crisman, publicity

Mrs. Carl Cristensen became
a member during the meeting
and the Mesdames Victor Kas
ser, Thomas Williams, LeRoy
Smith and Mac De Hart attend
ed as prospective members. Mrs,
Lee had as her guest, Mrs.Char
les U. Dakin, a past president of
the Klamath Falls Sojourners
club.
Mrs. LeRoy Smith won a prize
and birthday greetings were ex
tended to Mrs. J. J. Brown, Mrs.
Nellie Lees and Mrs. Etta Pryor.
Card prizes were won by Mrs.
E. R. James and Mrs. J. L. Da
vidson for bridge; Mrs. Malcolm
Hall and Mrs. Pryor for canasta;
Mrs. K a s s e r and Mrs. J. J.
Brown, pinochle.
The next meeting of the club
will be January 27 at the same
hotel. Anyone living in or near
Medford and vicinity for less
than two years is invited.
The members of the returning
governing -board of Medford So
journers entertained the board-
elect members at a luncheon at
the Rogue Valley Country club
Tuesday. At the luncheon were
Mrs. Lovenborg, Mrs. Howard,
Mrs. McNeil, Mrs. Chamberlain,
Mrs. Crisman, Mrs. Weddle,
Mrs. A. L. McLure, Mrs. Howard
J. Boyd, Mrs. Bruce. Braaten,
Mrs. A. C. Stockstill and Mrs.
O. W. Larson.
Lowrys Return
From California
Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Lowry,
Fern Valley road, have returned
home after a winter vacation in
Arizona and California. In Phoe
nix they were registered at the
Cambelback inn, and later spent
some time at the Desert inn,
Palm Springs.
The Lowrys report the lowest
. temperatures of many years
were registered while they were
in Arizona, and the same un
seasonable weather prevailed in
'California, with snow nearer to
Palm Springs than any time
previous.

engagement of Miss Georgia Ann
Thomas, (above) daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. George W. Thomas.

George W. Hornbeck. Mr. Horn
beck, a son of Mr. and Mrs. W.
L. Harris, Inglewood, Calif., is
an airman third class in the
United States Air Force and is
stationed at Palm Beach, Fla.
Miss Thomas is a senior in Med

For Newlyweds
Mr. and Mrs. Cletis Pilking
ton were honored at a wedding
reception Tuesday at the Harry
Ropp home, 407 Beatty street.
Mrs. Ropp and Mrs. Kenneth
Ross were hostesses for the
event.
The bride is the former Miss
Rosella Kinkle.
A wedding cake, baked and
decorated by Mrs. Ropp- and
Mrs. Ross, was cut and served
bv the bride's grandmother,
Mrs. W. W. Walker. The bride's
mother, Mrs. Helen Kinkle,
ooured coffee and served re
freshments, while Mrs. Louis
Lennie. the bridegroom's moth
er, assisted the couple with their
gifts.
Others who were at the

Pass. For the present they are

Chanter CP will meet Wed
nesday, January 19, at the home
of Mrs. J. A. Graff, 31 Geneva
street. Mrs. C. H. Paske will as
sist the hostess in serving lunch
eon at 1 p.m.
Chapter CG will meet at the
home of Mrs. R. C. Beatty, 1798
Myers lane, Wednesday, Janu
ary 19 at 1 p.m. Mrs. Frank
Morgan will be the assistant
hostess and Mrs. Robert Lee will
be in charge of the program.
Chapter BE will hold a regu
lar meeting Tuesday, January
18, at the home of Mrs. Arnel
Butler, 28 Barneburg road, at
8 p.m. Mrs. John Higinbotham
will be co-hostess. The program
is in charge of the Founders'
day committee.

Installation of officers will be
conducted - Wednesday, Janu
ary 19, by members of the
Ream.es Social club. A noon pay
luncheon will be' served. Mrs.

Robert Padgett, Central Point,
have announced the engagement
of their daughter, Miss Nola
Ruth Padgett, to Melvin Earl
Minger, - son of Mr. and Mrs.
Ray Minger, Central Point.
An early spring wedding is
planned.
Miss Padgett is employed by
the Pacific Telephone and Tele
graph company, and has been
with the firm for the past six
years.
Mr. Minger is on the staff of
Courtesy Chevrolet company in
Medford.

Telephone Wives
Organize Group
A new group to be known as
Telephone Wives was organized
last week and Mrs. William
O'Connor was elected president.
The club's first session was held
at Gilman's dairy, with 26 at
tending. -
Mrs. Harvey Parrott was elect
ed vice-president and Mrs. John
Strobel, secretary-treasurer. Mrs.
W. C. Judy was named project
chairman and Mrs. Richard
Bates, program chairman.
The first meeting was in the
nature of a "get acquainted"
party with each woman intro
ducing herself and speaking
briefly of her husband and fam
ily. At future meetings the wom
en will discuss projects and pro
grams: -.
The second Monday of each
month was designated as meet
ing day, and the next gathering
will . be February -14, at 7:30
p.m. at Girls Community club.

At Meeting Thursday
Miss Maccine Titus will be the
guest speaker for Medford Jay
cettes Thursday, January 20 at
8 p.m., at the home of Mrs. Bruce
Cyphers, 1508 Wilson place.
Miss Titus, a public librarian,
will speak on books.
The meeting has been changed
to Thursday instead of the sched
uled day of Wednesday. This was
arranged so that women who are
members of the. group may at
tend a show at the high school,
officials pointed out.

After Rites Here

are living at Oceanside, Calif.,
following their wedding ' Janu
ary 3 at the home of the bride
groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs.Haughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.

Medford. The bride is the form
er Miss Orvella Emily Conklin,

Medford. Both the bride and the
bridegroom attended Crater high
school. She was a sophomore at
the time of her wedding and the
bridegroom is a graduate.
The couple will live at Ocean-
side while he is stationed with
the Marine corps at Camp Pen
dleton, Calif.

performed the ceremony at 8
o'clock In the evening. About
20 guests attended.
Mrs. Roland Glass, a sister-in-
law of the bridegroom was ma

best man for his brother. .

length dress was of pale orchid
brocaded satin and her corsage
was a white orchid.
Baskets of orchid and pink
chrysanthemums were used
about the rooms.
The reception was held at the
Glass home. The serving table
was decorated with tall tapers.
The bride's parents are form
er Central Point residents and
the bridegroom's parents have
lived in this vicinity for many
years. The bridegroom was born
in Medford.

versary Friday, January 14. The
Tobias were honored at a small
party given by their son and

Highland drive. About 15 cou
ples attended, and anniversary
cake was served. Decorations
were in yellow and white.
The honored couple came to
Medford not long ago from Den
ver, Colo., where they lived for
many years. They were married
in 1897 in Nashville, Tain.
In Denver Mr. Tobin was in
the tailoring and importing bus
iness, and for 28 years taught
speech in evening classes at Em
ily Griffin Opportunity schooL
He, is now teaching similar
classes in a Medford business col
