a great many
people wear
excessive foot
covering in
the winter,
for the same
reason they
wear too much
clothing, not
because they
need it for
comfort but
simply be

there the mollycoddles started
clucking at me and I hurriedly
changed the subject.
I am reminded of the January
day a' medical student, name of
Brady, boldly walked into a
Main Street shoestore in Buffalo
and asked the salesman for ox
fords. Remember, that was the
era of high shoes or, as the
Canucks over the river called
'em, "boots." The salesman t51d
me that low shoes were not worn
in the winter time.
In the past half century there
has been a perceptible change in
tne popular belief about ex
posure," as evidenced by the
availability of low shoes even in
the winter months, and, in com
munities where youth is served,
perennial availability of cloth
ing as light as you wish.
About twenty years ago I
guffawed here about the warn
ing given young women about
wearing decollete the warning
given by a distinguished tuber
culosis specialist. My snide com
ment hurt the feelings of the
good doctor and he wrote me a
letter about it, which hurt my
feelings I mean the doctor was
so courteous and so gentle that
I wanted to crawl back into the
woodhouse. Just the same, the
notion that very light or scanty
clothing or none, if the wearer
is comfortable that way, has any
effect one way or another on the
wearer's immunity or suscepti
bility to any known disease or
illness, is ridiculous or Im
whatever you poor geeks care
to call me.
Take frostbite or chilblain, for
example. Universal experience.
and not just theory, has shown
that the best way to prevent it
is, wear the least, the lightest
clothing or foot cover you find

ably dry. A recent technical ad
vance gave us socks and stock
ings with a weave or texture
which might be superfine wool
en for all I can tell. These socks
are the most comfortable I've
ever worn but then, I wouldn't
know much about socks, for I
wear them only on Sunday or
when company comes and I have
to set in the parlor.

Riboflavin
Skin break in corner of mouth
wouldn't heal though I used various
salves for many weeks. Saw your sug
gestion to use riboflavin for such trou
ble. Tried it, and in four days the

Answer Does no harm to take daily
four 5-millieram tables of riboflavin
for three weeks. Riboflavin was for
merly called vitamin G and vitamin
B2. Richest food sources of riboflavin
are milk, skim milk, separator milk,
buttermilk, cheese, liver, eggs, nuts,
greens, peanuts.

Watertown, S. D. U.R)
Troubles came in bunches for
Arnold Peterson, a 45-year-old
farmer.
Peterson suffered a mangled
hand and severe lacerations in a
farm accident and had to work
several minutes in great pain
free himself from the machine.
Peterson was rushed to a hos
pital in a car, but the vehicle
had a flat tire on a one-way traf
fic stretchv After the tire was
changed, the car was stopped
again short of the hospital here
this time for an accident that
occurred within the Watertown
city limits.
