Vagrants Two men charged
with vagrancy have pleaded
guilty and were sentenced to 10
days in the- city jail, according
to city police records. They were

land, and Walter1 Edward Hon
stein, 25, also Portland. The
two" were "arrested with pinball
machine "cheating" equipment
in their possession. Included was
a magnet, clock spring, screw
drivers and homemade drill and
'battery outfit, police added.

year-old runaway - boys were
picked up by city police Satur
day and lodged - in the county
jail. They were from Anaheim,

following a fall at the Medford
postoffice, is "holding his own,
Maxwell, .69, underwent brain
surgery, hospital attendants said,
Mrs. Maxwell is a patient in the
same hospital because of shock,
the report said. The Maxwells
came to Medford to care for the
three children of -their son and
daughter-in-law, ; Mr. and Mrs.

Daisy's cafe, located hext to
the auction yard, will serve free
coffee to everyone attending the
auction, it was stated. The sale
will precede the regular Thurs

Two men appeared in circuit
court this morning and were
granted further time before en
tering pleas.
, They were Fred Warden, 31,
of route 1, box 350K, Medford,
and Jack Dwight McCoy, 26, of
129 Wightman st., Ashland. -
Warden is charged with man
slaughter in the death of 12-year-old
Philip Stephen Minear, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mineaj,
route 1, box 331. The boy was
fatally wounded in a hunting
accident last fall in the-Griffin!
Creek area. '
McCoy is charged with at
tempted rape.

morning at Ashland.
Mr. Gardner planted and oper
ated the 200-acre Goldencrest
orchard at Talent, "and was a
past ' director : of the Jackson
County Fruitgrowers league.
. Born Sept. 10, 1882, in Rooks
county, Kansas, Mr. Gardner
was graduated from Kansas
State college in 1904. He was a
member and past exalted ruler
of Ashland Elks lodge. '
Survivors include his. wife,
Gladys Gardner; a daughter,
Barbara Jean s Gardner, Salem,
and two sisters, Mrs. F. F. Burk,
Medford, and Mrs. W. C Seelers,
