Mrs. Philip B. (.owry, wife of State Senator Lowry, is pictured above
! with the couple's twomall sons, Bob, 3, and John, who will be six years
old January 11. Mrs. lowry and the children will move to Salem for the
coming term of the Oregon' legislature, which opens Monday, and Mrs.
lowry will serve as her husband's secretary. ; The Lowrys live on South
Pacific highway in the home in which Mr. Lowry lived as a child.

Among the many roles which women are called
upon to play in American life is that of the wife of an
official, and today The Mail Tribune presents the wives
of Medford city and Jackson county officials voted
into office at the last general election. r ,
Several of the women are assuming the role
of ''official wife" for the first time and in some in
stances, as that of the wives of legislators, the new
duty means a temporary move from the city and the
stimulating experience of serving as secretary for a
busy husband.

- Mrs. Chester Wendt is the wife of the new county commissioner, elected last No
vember. Mrs. Wendt is shown in the dining room of the Wendt's farm home on Old
Stage road as she prepared to store away some silver pieces which had been in use
during the holiday season. The pitcher and tray were family antiques given to the
Wendts as a wedding' present. Mrs.. Wendt, active in First Presbyterian church, is the.

Mrs. E. A. Littrell accompanied her husband, known to everyone as "Al," when he left Friday for Salem and "
the opening of the legislative session and will serve as his secretary. Mr. Littrell will begin his first term as a '
member of the Oregon House of Representatives from Jackson county. Mrs. Littrell, pictured at the couple's home -In
Country Club, estates, is active in Jackson County Republican Women's club and' does much Red Cross work. , '

Mrs. Earl Miller is the wife of Medford's new mayor. The f
mayor's wife was knitting on a'pink angora sweater when the '
photographer called af the Miller home, 617 Park avenue, while
the family cat. Tabby, lay contentedly on a stool by the cozy I
living room fire. ,
