    Portland-Alaska Lines To Lose Certificates
Portland (U.R) A. G.
Woodley, president of Pacific
Northern Airlines, said late yes
terday the Civil Aeronautics
board has voted to eliminate
the temporary certificates of
two airlines serving Alaska from
Portland.
Woodley said a decision by
the CAB made earlier this
month means that both the
flights of his firm's aircraft and
SPORTS
those of Alaska would be halted
if President Eisenhower accept
ed the board's current recom
mendation. Woodley asked support of the
Chamber of Commerce and oth
er organized groups to protest
the action which would give
Seattle a monopoly on air trade
with Alaska. He said there was
some hope the decision may
have been "leaked" as a "trial
balloon" and still could be reversed.

CKicago Tidal Wave Fails To SKow Up;
Prophet To Make No More Predictions
Chicago (U.R) Dr. Charles
Laughead, whose predicted
tidal wave didn't show up, clos
ed up shop as a prophet today
and went looking for a job.
Laughead credited an 11th
hour reprieve by the "general"
in outer space with saving Chi
cago from the tidal wave that
was supposed to engulf it yester
day. He said he would have
"nothing specific" to forecast
henceforth.
To Look for Job
The 44-year-old physician,
who was fired from his job at
Michigan State College because
of his gloomy predictions, said
he would spend Christmas with
his family at East Lansing, Mich.
' Then, he said, he will start
looking for a new job, but he
wasn't worried about finding
one.' "
"I feel bigger things are in
store for me," Laughead said.
"I'm not worried about a job."
Laughead ' was reluctant to
claim that the earthquake that
hit California yesterday con
firmed his forecast of "cataoyls
mic" events to accompany the
Chicago tidal wave. -
However, Mrs. Dorothy Mar
tin, who claims to be in contact
with other-world informants,
said she had been told that "seis
matic disturbance's would ac
company world wide destruc
tion' Not Given Authority
Mrs. Martin, in whose home
Laughhead has been a guest
since his buster by Michigan
State, said the West Coast earth
quake "bore out" her prediction.
She said she would like to re
veal more but that the prophets
"have not given me authority to
do so I must abide by their de
cision." 'Laughead insisted that there
had been-no mistake in his and
Mrs. Martin's forecast of a tidal
wave and earthquakes.
"There was no error on her
part," he said. "She got the mes
sages right. It was just that the
general you may call him a
god changed strategy at :the
last moment."
