Freed Canadian Flyer Tells
Of Two -Year Imprisonment

er A. R. MacKenzie says he spent
four months of his two years of
imprisonment by the Chinese
Communists seated on his bed,
unable to move about his prison
cell or read. '
MacKenzie told a press con
ference, his first since his re
lease by Red China Dec. 5, that
after 16 months of solitary con
finement the Communists finally
induced him to sign a partial
confession that he had "invaded
Chinese air space."
Two Canadian Cabinet minis
ters, issued a statement with the
press conference denying Mac
Kenzie's "confession" and charg
ing that the Royal Canadian Air
Force . pilot's imprisonment was
a violation of the Korean armis
tice. MacKenzie, a U. S. Air Force
exchange pilot, said he was shot
down five miles south of the
Yalu River during a U. N. raid
near the Suiho Reservoir in
North Korea.

the U.N. resolution calling for
the release of 11 U. S. prisoners
charged by the Chinese Reds
with spying.
MacKenzie told the press con
ference he was sure that if he
hadn't signed the statement he.
would still be in solitary con
finement. The 33-year-old fighter ace,
looking fit but somewhat tired,
answered rapid fire ' questions
for some 80 reporters with fre
quent flashes of humor.
MacKenzie told the ministers
that during a year , and four
months that he spent in solitary
confinement in prisons in North
Korea and Mukden, China, Chi
nese interrogators 'sought to
make him admit he had been
brief to patrol over China, that
he had been shot down over
China and had landed in China.

use it today, until I procured
some inside information.
Subjecting a child or other
member of the family to such
guesswork in lieu of proper med
ical care is a reflection on the
intelligence of the head of the
family, at the very least. I could

Snider's Dairy
50th Anniversary
Marked This Week
Snider's Dairy will observe its
50th anniversary this . week. 'It
was established by the late John
Snider Sr. and -his wife in 1904.
Coming to Medford 50 years
ago tomorrow, Mr. and Mrs.
Snider purchased one cow, and
opened a dairy on the Jackson
ville highway. Today the firm
is one of the largest dairies in
the southern end of the state.
The elder Mr. Snider died in
1931, and Mrs. Snider and her
son John have carried on the
business. In noting some of the
changes in the industry, Mrs.
Snider recalled early-day de
liveries were made from cans. It
was Snider! which introduced
the first glass milk bottles, fil
tered-milk and pasteurized milk
in the Rogue valley.
According. to records in the
state department of agriculture,
Snider's is the oldest dairy in
the state still under its original
ownership.
Mrs. Snider stated that D. O.
Fredericks, now retired, was one
of the long-time employees who
had much to do with the prog
ress of the company, and she
also pointed out that several
present employees of the com
pany have also had long service.'
They include Glenn Downing,
Melvin Wright, Henry Dahlke,
Pete Montgomery, Lillian New
tori, Hilda Lange and Dick Til
ley. During the years, the firm has
won many "first" in ice cream
making competitions, and in
1953 won the coveted "Leader
of Industry" award.
