Ducks Find Scoring Range;
Defeat Seattle Club 86-73

squad, which dropped its first
two games, found its scoring eye
last night and defeated Seattle
university 86-73 in a pre-season
contest.
The Ducks went into the lead
after less than three minutes of
play in the first half, and led
through the remainder of the
contest. Halftime score was Ore
gon 47, Seattle 37.
Stan Glowaski, Seattle for
ward, and Max Anderson, Duck
forward, shared scoring honors
with 25 points apiece. Dick
Stricklin made 16 points for Se
attle from his forward post.

tion of Dec. 15 as Safe Driving
day:
PROCLAMATION
Whereas, December 15, 1954,
has been set aside as S-D day
SAFE-DRIVING DAY, through;
out the United States to demon
strate that motorists and pedes
trians alike can .reduce traffic
accidents, and
; Whereas, the President of the
United States and the Govern
or of-the State of Oregon have
asked all Mayors and officials
for their active support in this
campaign, and
Whereas, accidents last year
killed one person on the average
of every 14 minutes around the
clock and throughout the year
for a total of 38,300 Americans,
' Now, therefore, I, D. L. Flynn,
Mayor of the City of Medford,
do hereby proclaim December
15, 1954, as S-D day SAFE
DRIVING DAY, in the City of
Medford and urge every.- citi
zen to . cooperate in this great
cause and challenge them to re
main completely free of traffic
accidents for the 24 hour period.

Spokane Robber
Gets 10-Year Term

. Quastling, 21, a native of Czech
oslovakia who nearly got away
with one of the biggest bank
jobberies in ; the history of the
Northwest, was sentenced yes
terday to 10 years in prison.
Quastling, Denver, Colo., rob
bed the Dishman state bank at
Dishman, a small suburb east
of here, of $135,000 on Sept. 10.
Quastling, who earlier had
pleaded innocent to charges of
bank robbery and interstate
transportation of stolen vehicles
and stolen guns, yesterday
changed his plea to guilty -of
bank robbery.
He was to be taken to McNeil
island federal prison today.
The other counts against
Quastling were dismissed.
Radar is a contraction of terms

seen objects at various distance
ranges. ,

Wimer Youfhs To Face
Destruction Charge
Two 18-year-old Wimer youths
are to appear in district court
on Saturday at 10 a.m, on a
charge of wilful destruction of
a street lamp on West . Evans
creek rd., in Rogue River, ac
cording to court records. ..
One of the youths, Gaylord
Eugene Slack, appeared yester
day and pleaded guilty. He was
released on his own recogni
zance. The other, Carl -Martin,
posted $100 bail earlier. '
The action is alleged to have
been committed on Nov. 22 with
a .38 caliber pistol which is
being held by the sheriff's of

McCarthy Attack

who 'voted against censuring
Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy, last
night denounced the Wisconsin
Republican for his attack on
President Eisenhower. .
"Sen. McCarthy is 100 per
cent wrong," Kuchel declared.
"The last Congress, ; under the
leadership of President Eisen
hower, passed thei strongest anti
subversive legislation in the his
tory of Congress."

Aumsville last Thursday. Shaw,
66, was working on Market road

up dirt along the shoulder when
Shaw fell between two trucks
and his head lodged against the
wheels of one of the trucks. -

Robbers Take Truck

searched today for two masked
robbers who. . commandeered a
Spokane city school district
truck and escaped with $7,833,
mostly in silver. . : ;
The money,: for the school
lunch program, ' weighed nearly
600 pounds.
Detectives Dave Watson and
George Calarman said the rob
bers commandeered the closed
body pickup truck just after
Kelsey Watkins and Mrs. Wen
una Bolch had left the school ad
ministration building yesterday
to make their regular weekly de
posit of the lunch funds.

A meeting of Trocp 8 was held
Dec. 7, when most of the time
was spent assigning different
boys to the Christmas tree lots
to sell trees. The lots are located
at the Big Pines Lumber com
pany on Sixth st., and the For
tune Gas station at the points of
Central and Riverside in South
Medford. :
A display of the' pine cones
was set up in the window of
Trowbridge and Flynn on West
Main st. The cones may be pur
chased there and the boys also
plan to make house to house calls
selling them. ! -
