    As We Live
Teenager Owei Family
Some Pari of Her Time
Far too many teenagers think
of their homes as places to eat
snd sleep and of their parents
as people to do things for them.
A young girl writes:

clothes and many others. I
wouldn't mind the work if she
only treated me properly. She
expects me to do the work of
en adult and treats me as a
child."
(A) I really do not think your
mother is expecting too much of
you. Certainly you can make
the beds very
,Jfc, i quickly. If you
nave a sister,
why not ask
her to share
this work with
you? You in
turn could
help her with
her jobs. Bed
making goes
mo're quickly
when two peo
ple work to-
-; - gether,
The same holds true for dish
washing. If, however, you are
an only child, there would not be
enough dishes to take up much
of .your time. Work out a system
and you can get the dishes done
before you realize it.
As for washing your clothes,
most girls of your age not only
wash but also mend their clothes.
Many even make their own. Se
lect clothes made of materials
that require little if any ironing,
and your job will then be child's
play, i. .
A daily visit to your grand
mother will mean a lot to her,
and you owe this to a person so
close to you. While you are visit
ing her, couldn't you do some of
your mending, or perhaps even
make some of your clothes.
If you have some tests in
school the next day or an import
ant club meeting, tell her you
cannot come but will stay longer
the next day or will telephone
her and chat for a short time. If
you didn't go to see her, are you
sure you wouldn't just fritter
away your time with nothing to
show for it?

- FOR THE HUNTER The gift supreme for the hunter or
trap shooter is this model 50 Winchester, the. world's only
self-loading shotgun with a non-recoiling barrel. It utilizes
a revolutionary new principle which reduces recoil about
25 per cent. It comes in 12 and 20 gauge in field, trap and
skeet grades.
Coordinated Leisure
Togs Said Welcome
Gift for Every Man
This year, when . planning
Dad's Christmas gift, why not
by-pass the od stand-bys and give
him something he'll enjoy for a
long time? A gift of coordinated
casual wear is sure to heighten
his enjoyment of his leisure.
It's important for men to get
out of their business clothes
when they come home and into
"leisure - loving" comfortable
clothes, psychologists say. It
puts them into a relaxed frame
of mind. A gift of leisure clothes
will improve his disposition and
help make life pleasant for him
and the family.

sports coat The price tag may
be steep for one member of the
family, but it's within easy reach
when the cost is shared.
Soft wool sports coats are the
ideal garb for leisure activity
and, most men show a strong
preference for these regular
weight jackets for year-'round
wear'.
The newest colors are darker
and richer than in former years.
Brown-with-black is a highly
favored new color combination
shown in small patterns of over
all diamonds, narrow diagonal
stripes and fine-line herring
bones. Solid black is used in soft
lamb's wool, wool Shetland and
luxurious cashmere sports jack
ets which would make a good
choice for a gift that will also
be suitable for dressy wear.
Dark-royal blue and medium
gray, both used with black in
typical tweed patterns such as
the hound's tooth check are
other handsome new color com
binations. Charcoal-gray wbrsetd wool
flannel trousers are the right
complement for the sports coat.
Worsted wool has greater wrin
kle resistance and longer life,
but plain wool trousers in the
same dark gray shade are accept
able if the budget won't stretch.
Most stores will tailor the
trouser cuffs after the holidays
if they are told the trousers are
a gift.
A gift of coordinated leisure
also allows junior members of
the family to present "smaller"
gifts. A leisure shirt of springy,
exceptionally comfortable worst
ed jersey, wool flannel or sheer
worsted wool is a good choice.
The touch of color of a bright
wool flannel vest makes it a
good additional gift item. Choose
the pattern to suit the man. If
he is conservative, a solid color
flannel in a , cheerful yellow,
scarlet or olive green is a good
bet. If he's youthfu-minded, a
multi-color tattersall check is
smart, and many of the newest
of these have a dull black back
ground. Shears Suggested
For Dressmakers
For the dressmaker, or the
homemaker, who sews for the
family and home a wide va
riety of gift items will help her
recall your Christmas thought
fulness over and over again
through the year ahead.
From dressmaker, pinking and
buttonhole shears there are
also many attachments you can
give her for her machine or,
hemmarkers, automatic pinners,
spool racks or baskets, cutting
boards and other professional
short-cut'ers to easier sewing.
Or, give her a gift certificate
for a made-to-measure dress
form.
And, if she's already a "fully
equipped" seamstress; select a
smart pattern in her size; add
the correct length of fabric
therefore, complete it with need
ed buttons, zipper and other
findings, and you'll truly Christ
mas thrill the dress maker!

Back Stairs: Ike's Golf Score

United Press Correspondent
Augusta, Ga. (U.R) Back
stairs at the White House:
White House Press Secretary
James C. Hagerty now has. a
surefire way to cut off question

Eisenhower's golf score. Hagerty
just asks the reporters how well

As the President's guests,
White House reporters and news
photographers played the Aug
usta National for the first time
last Friday. And the newsmen
didn't do too well. A few shot
in - the low 90s. But most of
them shot over 100, some way
over.
President Eisenhower usually
gets in the low 90s or upper 80s
on the Masters. However, bis

Although the reporters were
playing from the front tees, as
does Mr. Eisenhower, they easily
could see why even the best pros
have so much trouble there. For
instance, a high-handicap duffer
named Moore was only able to
scrape through with a double
bogie and a bogie on two of the
toughest holes. And that with
out once being in any trouble.
If I had not luckily stayed clear
of the water and sand hazards,
the scores would have been
much, much higher.
