for Visit in Valley
T Arriving this week for a two
week visit in the valley with
relatives are Mr. and Mrs. May
nard Hadley and Dr. and Mrs.
F. N. Elwell. The Hadleys are
from Oklahoma City, Okla., and
Dr. and Mrs. Elwell live at Mc
Pherson, Kans.
They will visit Mr. and Mrs.
Hadley's son and his family May
nard Hadley Jr., at Ashland, and
Mr. Hadley's mother, Mrs. Melva
Hadley, Medford, and his sister
and her family, the Clarence
Chews at Central Point.
Mrs. Melva Hadley plans to
return home with the Maynard
Hadleys to spend the Christmas
holidays with them.

A social hour followed the
meeting. Refreshments were
served with Mr. and Mrs. V. L.
Quackenbush, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Hobbs and Mrs. Jessie
Walters presiding.

will be the last Monday in Jan

In Florida
Lt. and Mrs. Douglas W. Grif
fith, married October 23 in First
Methodist church, Vancouver,
Wash., are now living at Mex
ico Beach, Port St Joe, Fla. The
officer has been assigned to air
controller school of the United
States Air Force at Panama City,
Fla.
Mrs. Griffith is the former
Miss Colleen Ellingson, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Bick
sell, Vancouver, and the bride
groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs.
L. C. McCurdy, 4225 Cedar lane.
The wedding ceremony was
read by the Rev. Donald Yates.
The church organist who
played the traditional wedding
music also accompanied Miss
Donna Loeweil of Vancouver,
who sang.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a waltz
length gown of white nylon em
broidered lace ever satin and
carried sweetheart roses and
stephanotis in a cascade bouquet.
Her finger tip length veil of illu
sion net and lace was held in
place by a tiny coronet of pearls.
The maid-of-honor, Miss Eva
Mae Gates, Vancouver, vore a
waltz length coral nylon net and
satin gown and carried a nose
gay of roses and chrysanthe
mums. The bride's mother wore a
navy blue ensemble with blue
accessories and the bridegroom's
mother a powder blue dress
maker suit with black acces
sories. Their corsages were of
pink carnations.
Lt. E. W. Thomas was best
man and Lt. Leslie Fawson and
Palmer Ellington, brother of the
bride, were ushers. Lt. Thomas
and Lt. Pawson were fellow of
ficers of the bridegroom at the
U.S. Air Force station at . Con
don, Orer
Following the wedding a re
ception for 70 guests was given
by the bride s parents at the
home of Mrs. Myrtle Flaskerud,
Vancouver. Mrs. Palmer, Elling
son, sister-in-law of the bride,
Mrs. Archie Laushway, Kelso,
Washington, aunt of the bride
and Mrs. Myrtle Flaskerud as
sisted in serving.
In charge of the gifts were
Mrs. Jack Livingston and Miss
Dolores Anderson, both Van
couver, and Miss Laura Griffith,
sister of the bridegroom, took
charge of the guest book.
One of the highlights of the
reception was the presentation
of his silver bars and promotion
to first lieutenant in the air force
to Lieutenant Griffith by Cap
tain Lloyd K. Soverin, com
manding officer of the Condon
Air Force station.'
Attending the wedding from
Medford were the bridegroom's
parents, Mrs. Harold E. Wallace
and Dale Coverstone.
The newlyweds made stops in
Arizona, Texas and Old Mexico
en route to Florida. The bride
attended Vancouver High school
and was employed by Pacific
Telephone and Telegraph com
pany for the past two years.
Lieutenant Griffith was grad
uated from Medford High school
with the class of 1950 and was
attending Southern Oregon col
lege, Ashland, at the time of his
enlistment in the USAF in 1951.

Sixtieth Wedding Anniversary
Observed by Couple Thursday
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Chew,
1404 West Main street, were
honored at an open house No
vember 25 in observance of their
60th wedding, anniversary. Many
friends and relatives called on
the couple during the afternoon.
Serving as hostesses for the
event were the .. Chews' grand
daughters, the Misses Melva and
Belva Chew, who served refresh
ments; Miss Evalyn Chew, who
had charge of the guest book and
Miss Linda Chew who received
the guests. .
Mr. and Mrs. Chew were mar
ried in Newkirk, Okla., Nov. 29,
1894. Mr. Chew was engaged in
the hardware and grocery bus
iness in Oklahoma City until
they moved to Medford in 1936.
He then ranched in the Griffin
Creek area until he retired in

Howard Garden club November
23. The event was held at the
home of Mrs. L. C. McCav with
Mrs. T. E. McGraw and Mrs. H.
E. Peyton serving as co-hostesses
Mrs. Albert Stocks brought as
her guest, Mrs. O. A. Albin, a
visitor from Canon City, Colo.
Mrs. J. R. Campbell and Mrs.
Don J. Elliot spoke on flower
arrangements, bringing out that
the best containers should be
simple and graceful, and the ar
rangement shoupld fit the size
and shape of the vase. Several
arrangements were shown using
a Christmas theme.
The "group will' meet Decem
ber 13 at the. home of Mrs. Don
J. Elliot at 9 a.m. to make Christ
mas wreaths for. Camp White
decorations. There will be a pot
luck luncheon, and the regular
meeting will be held in the after
noon. A Christmas gift exchange
is planned for the meeting.

Thanksgiving dinner at 6:30
p.m. The Thanksgiving theme
was used in decorations- both in
the dining room and in the chap
ter room. '
After a short business meet
ing with the matron, Mrs.1 Rex
Note presiding, the guests .were
entertained with a program. The
chorus from Crater High school,
directed by Norman Carothers,
sang three numbers. Miss Joan
Henderson, Eagle Point, sang
two numbers and Madge Lilly-
white gave a tap dance, accom
panied by her mother, Mrs. An
thony Lillywhite, who also gave
reading. '
Special guests for the evening
were the worshipful master ol
Central Point Masonic lodge, Al
Servold, Mrs. Letha Murphy,
member of the endowment fund
committee and Mrs. Everett Fa-
ber, member of the traveling
flags committee of the grand
chapter of Oregon; Mrs. John
Esp, worthy matron of Reames
chapter, and Mrs. Jack Caldwell,
Eagle Point, grand Adah of the
grand chapter of Oregon.
Many other guests from Ash
land, Klamath Falls and Med
ford were present.

Caldwell, Camp White, has been
pledged to membership m Phi
Lambda Omicron sorority, con
sidered the oldest sorority on the
West Coast, at Pacific university
at the completion of the fall
rushing period.
Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nor
man Caldwell of Camp White,
Miss Caldwell is a freshman at
Pacific. She is a graduate of
Medford High school.
Phi Lambda Omicron was
founded on the Pacific campus
in 1871 as a literary society and
was the first on the Pacific
campus in 1871 as a literary so
ciety and wag the first such
group to appear on a West Coast
college campus.

By Women's Clubs
Plans for two parties were
made at a meeting of Scottish
Rite Women's club held Mon
day night, with Mrs. Ralph Lue
presiding.. .
The women will serve a din
ner for the Scottish Rite bodies
December 4. Also planned was
the annual Christmas party for
the club to be held December 13.
It will be a luncheon at the Med
ford hotel. -.
