of the senators have concluded
that it is easier to go to one of

as good, and a senator doesn't
rate any faster service than a
tourist from Waukegan, but a
martini is available if the hot
debate has whetted a senatorial
thirst. ...

A new kind of chain letter is
being circulated around the
Pentagon and elswhere here. It
is, with tongue in the cheek, de
signed to bring relief and happi
ness to "tired old husbands."
There is no money involved. No
trouble with the post office. The
letter says: Simply send a copy
of this letter to five of your
close friends who are equally
tired. Put your name at the bot
tom of the list and then bundle
up your wife ,and ship her to
the man whose name appears at
the top of the list. When your
name bobs up at the top of the
list you may receive as many as
16 to 178 women." That's a hor
rible thought. But more awful,
according to Pentagon wits, was
the general who got his own
wife back,. The chain, was there
by broken.
The British Information Serv
ice here is collecting some new
anecdotes about Sir Winston
Churchill in connection with the
Prime Minister's 80th birthday.
One concerns a civil servant
who was asked by a friend if
Churchill ever spoke to him.
i The servants puffed up like a
poisoned pup and said, "Yes,
once."

Rose Marie Legler
Named County 4-H
Member of Month
Rose Marie Legler, l&V daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Legler,
route 2, box 199, Central Point,
has been named Jackson county'6
outstanding 4-H Club member
for the month of November.
Starting her 10th year in 4-H,
Miss Legler has been active with
a total of 27 projects in agricul
utre and home economics. Rab
bits and swine ,have been her
major? projects, with' additional
time spent on .'sewing, health,
dairy, poultry and the new jun
ior leadership program.
She now owns a cow,, a cow
and calf, ten does and some
chickens which she keeps on
her parent's 30-acre mixed dairy
and swine farm at Central Point.
Active in Work
Miss Legler has been active
in her community 4-H clubs, be
ing president, secretary, and re
porter of different project clubs,
and vice-president of the Central
Point Community club. She is
also a member of the Jackson
County 4-H Council and has
served as radio-TV chairman this
past year. ., This group has as
sisted in. several TV programs,
besides - putting on a . regular
monthly radio program.
Numerous prizes have been
won by Miss Legler at the Jack
son County 4-H fair, with champ
ion ribbons in her rabbit project
in 1951 and 1952, her prized pos
session. She has won numerous
other ribbons with her swine,
dairy and poultry and was first
and third in the senior showman-

ship classes this year. Her work
at county fair won trips for her
to State Fair in judgmg and dem
onstrations in 1952.

Rose Marie has been a dele
gate to 4-H summer school at
Corvallis five different years
and this year was MC on one
of the radio broadcasts of sta
uon kuau. sne also served as
a camp counselor at the 1954
4-H summer camp.
Her school activities are many
and varied. She is a member of
the Photo club, annual staff,
paper staff and. Girls' league and
the Future Homemakers' of
America. She is reporter of the
FHA and 'attended the district

BLM Invalidates
14 Placer Claims
The Portland land office of
the Bureau of Land Management
has declared 14 mining claims in
the Rogue River National forest
east of Highway 62 and south of
Union Creek null and void, ac
cording to letters filed with the
county clerk's office.
In each case the BLM inform
ed the claim holders, seven in
all, that nptice of charges had
been served and no response had
been made within the time al
lowed. Therefore, "the mining
claims are hereby declared null
and void, and the case is closed,"
the letter said.
The placer claimholders and
their locations were Paul Bulkin,
three claims near Mill creek,
four miles southeast of Union
creek; Joe Cook, three claims,
same general location; Mrs. Gos
ta Norback, four claims near
Ginkgo creek, two miles east of
Highway 62; C. M. Harter, one
claim, same general location; C.
D. Terwilliger, the Beverly No.
5 placer claim, two miles south
east of Union Creek: Betty En-
glet the Beverly No. 8, same gen
eral area; and T. L. Park, one
claim, near Mill creek.

tension service. '
