Revision in Medford
Most To Be Unchanged
The Medford water commis
sion Saturday announced that
rates for 23 per cent of the users
cf the Medford water system
nut
1. For 77 per cent, rates will
mere are mree classes i
customers whose water bills will
be changed. They are:
1. Some 560 customers who
live outside the city limits of
Medford and not in any organ
ized water district, but who buy
Medford water. Their rates will
be increased an average of 29.2
per cent. These customers com
prise about 8 per cent of the
total number of users in the
water system.
2. About 75 "flat-rate" water
customers" inside the city of
Medford who have large or mul
tiple connections. Their rates
will be increased varying
amounts, depending on the num
ber and size of their connec
tions. These customers comprise
about 1 per cent of all users.
3. Some 970 commercial cus
tomers inside Medford. Their
rates will be decreased an aver
age of about 16.82 per cent. They
comprise about 14 per cent of

The new rates, "plus $33,600 in
fire protection taxes approved
earlier this year, will mean an
increase in water commission
income of about $49,500 annual
ly, or about 15.7 per cent.
In making the announcement,
the commission pointed out that
Medford's water rates have al
ways been among the lowest In
the Pacific Northwest, and will
remain so. The increases have
been made necessary by in
creases in both costs of labor
and supplies. This is the first
water rate revision in many
years,
Complete details of how the
rate revisions . were computed,
after about a year and a half
of study,' are available for in
spection at the water commis
sion office. The Commission be
lieves that the revised rates rep
resent a correction of inequities,
and are fairer to all users than
the former ones

Jacksonville Man
Receives Injuries
In Auto Accident
Earl R. Aue, 55, route 1, box
24, Jacksonville, was reported in
"good" condition Saturday fol
lowing a Friday night accident in
which he was thrown through
the windshield of a car after it
left the road, according to hos
pital attendants and the sheriffs
office. j -
Aue received multiple cuts on
his neck and head, attendants at
the Community hospital re
ported. The driver of the vehicle,
Mrs. Aue was treated, and re
leased for minor injuries at the
hospital. They were taken there
by Medford ambulance service.
Forced Off Road
Sheriffs deputies stated that
the Aue car left the highway
about one mile west of Jackson
ville but did not turn over. Aue
told officers another unidenti
fied vehicle forced them off the
road. .
In another accident about 2
p.m. Saturday, two vehicles were
involved in a collision four miles
north of Gold Hill on Highway
99, according to state police.
Drivers ,were Ole Gene Ever
son, Lopg Beach, Calif., and Wil
bur Herbert Meyer, Grants Pass.
Meyer was cited by police for
passing with insufficient clear
ance. The Everson car was pull
ing a house trailer with some
damage resulting to both car
and trailer.

Oregon State college graduate
and his wife lives at Olympia,
Wash., according to an Army
news release.

burg Community hospital as the
result of a recent automobile ac
cident, auxiliary members here

Korea. Riggs, a small-arms re

division, arrived overseas in
August from an assignment at
Camp Pendleton, Calif. He en
tered the Marine corps in Feb
ruary, according to a Marine
corps release.

He had been a resident of this
community for 30 years.
Survivors include his mother,
Mrs. Laura Gillette, Medford; a
daughter, Mrs. Verna Rutter,
Roseburg; a sister, Lois Grim,
Medford; three brothers: John
H,. Medford; Lowell S., Klam
ath Falls; and Chester E., Port
land; and two grandchildren.

Combs, 78, who died Thursday,

The deceased was born Feb.
23, 1876, in Neosha Falls, Kan.,
and came to Ashland at the age
of 15. She was the daughter of
the late Basil and 'Mary Rose.
On Jan. 3, 1907, in Oakland,
Calif., she was married to Frede
rick W. Combs, who survives.
She moved to Wagner Creek in
1911, and lived there until 1944,
when she moved to Medford. A
daughter, Bernice, preceded her
in death in 1936.
Survivors besides her husband
Include two sons, Howard W.,
Talent, Ore.; and Everett L.,
Medford; a daughter, Mrs. Helen
E. Hamilton, Medford; five
brothers, Leslie Rose, Seattle,
Wash.; Charles Rose, Monterey,
Calif.; Philip Rose, Arcadia,
Calif .r Karl Rose,' San Jose,
Calif.; ! and George Rose, Ash
land, Ore.; two sisters, Mrs.
Mary Aikins, Ashland; and Miss
Jessie Rose; Los Gatos, Calif.; 11

Chest x-rays of all patients at
Community hospital will begin
within a few days. Sacred Heart
hospital will be equipped with
a permanent chest x-ray center
about the first, of the year.

Dies in California
Donald Boyd, 19, former Med
ford resident, died yesterday in
Modesto, Calif., 'according to in
formation received here by
friends. The youth, a son of Mr.
and Mrs. A. T. Boyd, died follow
ing a long illness caused by an
internal infection, it was said.
The Boyds, who left here
about eight years ago, are now
living at Rt. 5, Box 716, Rose
