Psychiatrist Tells Why Men Mixed Up
Flint, Mich. (U.R) A Flint
psychiatrst believes ono reason
many men become mixed up is
because, while boys, they try to
act grown-up like their fathers
vhen they still are dependent on
their mothers.
Dr. Paul H. Jordan, director of
the Flint Child Guidance Clinic,
said he believes this is why four
out of five persons who have
speech" or reading difficulties are
boys and why seven out of eight
alcoholics are men.
"The small boy seeks to imi
tate his father, who seems big
and courageous because he
leaves home often and comes
and goes pretty dramatically,"
Jordan explained.
"The boy is apt to think that
if he wants to be like father, he
will have to leave home more
and get around more. But he is
really just a small boy and does
not want to leave his mother.
So he thinks he is weak and that
women have made him that way.
"One solution for the difficulty
is to let him be a little boy when
he has to; let him stay with his
mother without being ashamed."

eyed, auburn haired head nurse
of the surgical word who, the
callow intern decided on sight,
Would make an ideal mother for
my children discovered what
had happened. A spoonful of the
Jacobian emetic set everything
right in a jiffy.
But once again we are stopped
in our tracks, by the tender care
of the federal drugs bureau to
protect you poor souls against
such "poison." . It seems that
zealous devotion to such restric
tion of the sale of a few low-profit
items distracts attention from
the indiscriminate sale of aceta-'
nilide, for instance, the sense
deadening ingredient in a score
of nostrums that purport to cure
or relieve "cold," grip, headache,
neuralgia, or whatever ache, pain
or discomfort you may have.
Acetanilide. (phenylacetamide)
or its substitute pfcenacetin (ace
tophenetidin) destroys red blood
corpuscles, interferes with the
vital oxygen-carrying function of
the hemoglobin in the blood,
causes anoxia (oxygen deficit) in
the cells of the body, particular
ly in heart muscle. The anoxia
is the lethal feature of heart fail
ure, be it slow heart muscle fail
ure (myocardial) or more acute
(heart attack).
Five grains of acetanilide may
cause death. Four grains is the
maximum dose an adult may
take without risk of heart fail
ure and collapse, especially if he
does not remain at rest for at
least an hour after the dose.

To Drown Each Year
'Lincoln, Neb. U.R) Despite
repeated warnings, Americans
drown themselves at the rate of
3,500 persons a year, according
to Miss Helen Becker of the Uni
versity of Nebraska.
Miss Becker, an extension
health specialist, says to follow
these important rules for worry
free, safe swimming and water
sport.
Never swim alone. Wait at
least an. hour after eating be
fore, going into the water. Don't
overtax your energy by swim
ming too far or too long.
If you swim in the ocean,
watch out for those big rollers
and the undercurrent. Ask about
tides and local hazards.
If you visit a fresh water lake,
deep holes, currents and sudden
storms may be prevalent. Never
dive into unknown depths.
Don't be afraid to ask local
citizens about the conditions. It
may save your life.

federal and state authorities
shrug their shoulders and mum
ble Caveat emptor. Translated
that means: If you're fool enough
to take such drugs, who cares?
Harvard President Denies Charges of Reds on Faculties
