Carnival Corn
Big party specialty; easy to
make. Combine one-half cup
sugar; two-thirds cup light mo
lasses, one-third cup water, one
tablespoon vinegar, one-fourth
teaspoon salt; stir until sugar dis
solves. Cook to light crack stage
(270 degrees, if you've a ther
mometer). Remove from heat;
add one tablespoon butter and
one-eighth teaspoon soda. Stir
well. Pour over eight cups pop
ped corn and two -cups shelled
peanuts. Toss well.
Harvard Beets Favorite I
This is perhaps the most popu
lar of all recipes for serving
beets as a vegetable. A reminder
if you haven't fixed them late
ly. Melt two tablespoons butter;
add one tablespoon cornstarch,
one tablespoon sugar and one
fourth teaspoon salt, Blend. Add
one-half cup vinegar and cook
until thick. Add two cups cubed
cooked beets and heat thorough
ly. Six servings for four persons.
For a change substitute two
tablespoons sugar for the one
tablespoon; Juice and rind of one
medium orange for the one-half
cup vinegar.
Curry Powder Biscuits
For an interesting flavor base,
try curried biscuits for any of
the blander creamed dishes such
as eggs, tuna, chicken and the
like. About one-half teaspoon
of the curry' powder sifted in
with the dry ingredients for a
two-cups-of-four recipe is a
good start. If your family likes
stronger flavors than most, add
more curry powder.

1 tablespoon wine vinegar
Shell and de-vein the shrimp,
but leave the tails on. Make a
sauce by 'mixing all the other
ingredients together. Arrange
the shrimp in a shallow pan
9x14 inches and pour the
sauce over them. Marinate for
several hours. Broil for five to
eight minutes under, a brisk
flame. Arrange the shrimp on a
serving dish or serve them in
the broiling pan. You eat them
by x picking them up by the tail
and dipping them into the hot
sauce, so plates and plenty of
paper napkins are needed with
this dish.
Hungarian Meat Loaf
A fine meat loaf made from
two pounds ground pork shoul
der (not pork sausage) relies on
a bit of garlic and lemon rind
and juice for its good flavor.
Five servings.
Rub mixing bowl with cut
surface of garlic clove. Mix two
cups soft bread crumbs, 2V4 .tea
spoons salt, Vb teaspoon pepper
and grated rind of one . lemon.
Stir in two beaten eggs and three
tablespoons lemon juice; then
add two pounds of ground pork
shoulder, . mixing gently but
thoroughly. Press firmly into
loaf pan and bake in 350 degree
oven for one to VA hours. Pour
excess fat from loaf pan; remove
loaf to hot platter and serve
With cream gravy made from
part of the fat. Garnish with
slices of lemon dipped in chop
ped parsley.

domiciliary this week. . Untie
February, 1951, Foster carried
a card bearing No. 1. He was
the first 'man to be put on the
rolls when Camp White opened.
"I came here in January when
there were only three or four
men waiting to be admitted," he
said. Foster is accustomed to
rugged life in the open and since
he left he has been-camping
around. He spent the past sum
