CALCIUM DEPOSITS AGAIN

a spoonful of plain fish liver oil.
: It doesn't matter whether the
pathologist ascribed death to the
calcium deposits or left it to oth
ers to draw their own conclu
sions. What does matter is that
from this and one or two similar
observations which were widely
publicized, the medical profes
sion and the laity derived the no
tion that child or adult who gels
more vitamin D than some arbi
trary "authority" has designat
ed as the minimum daily re
quirement is in danger of cal
cium deposits In joints, arteries,
lungs, etc. .
No one has proved scientific
ally that calcification of body
tissues or deposits of calcareous
material in or around the joints,
arteries or other tissues or or
gans causes any ailment. All the
evidence we have indicates that,
on the contrary, such calcifica
tion or deposits are the Conse
quence of physical degeneration
or sometimes infection. Dr. Os
ier recognized this book in the
19th century when he wrote, in
the "doctors bible":
.."Calcification of the arterial
wall follows fatty , degenera
tion and sclerosis ..."
In "Arthritis and Allied Dis
orders," (Paul B. Hoeber, Inc.,
41) the author, H. M. Margolis,
M.D., says that in the later
stages rheumatoid arthritis of
the spine is characterized by cal
cification. These are just two of many
similar views I could quote from

Popularity Pointers .
For Teen-Asert -
Most teen-agers would like to
be more popular, but lack the
know-how of becoming so. The
teen-ager who wrote the follow
' lng letter has some suggestions
which other young people would
do well to follow. Sho says:
(O) "A year ago, I wrote to
ask you how to make friends.
You said I should be recep
live and pleasant to people.
So, I now smile at people in
the halls at school or whan
. meet them on the streets.
I compliment new clothes and
hairdos. I Joined club and
now I hare friends. I was self
conscious, so you advised me
to Improve my appearance. !
hare had some pictures made
of myself and I study my good
and bad features. I hare im
proved my looks at lot by do
ing this. Thank you ever so
much for your help."
(A) The advice I gave this girl
a year ago holds just as true
today as it did then and for
all girls and
boys. I am us
ing her letter
to show other
teen-agers how
I what they

because he li usually very ill-at-ease.
Then, too, if a person lacks
poise, people underestimate his
good qualities. You must have
a good opinion of yourself if
you want others to respect you.
This girl has used an Interest
ing method of gaining self-confidence.
It li certainly worth
trying if you suffer from self
consciousness too. Have some
pictures taken In different poses.
Study the pictures ts this girl
did to see what are your good
and bad features. Then get to
work and improve your appear
ance. Nothing will Improve your
self-confidence more quickly
than Improving your appearance.

share. No one can resist a smile
and no one can help liking a
person who makes him feci sat

quickest ways to make people
like you is to like them and
show that you like them,
A self-conscious person rarely
lias many friends. It is embar

find a pathologist or even a med

contends that calcification or the

hardening of the arteries, rheu

If any of you poor souls fall

Sherman's dictum still stands
"The ordinary mixed diet of
Americans and Europeans, at
