National Forest
Receipts Reach
Nearly $9,500,000
Portland (U.FD An all-time
high of nearly $9,500,000 has
been paid Oregon and Washing
ton for their ahare of national
forest receipts for the fiscal
year ended June 30, according
to Regional Forester J. Herbert
Stone.
Oregon received $0,029,382
and Washington $3,434,618. The
payments represent 25 per cent
of receipts from timber sales,
grazing permits, land use per
mits and other national forest
uses. The money is earmarked
for benefit of public schools and
roads within the counties in
which national forest land is sit
uated. Oregon and Washington pay
ments combined total slightly
more than half the total returns
to the 40 states and two terri
tories in which national forests
are located, Stone said.
In Salem, the secretary of
state's office announced appor
tionment of the money by coun
ties, including: Jackson, $173,
880; Josephine, $73,214; Klam
ath, $368,148.
Man Hospitalized
After Injury Found

to hospital city police reports.
City police said that Hudspeth,
lying on the ground, at Sixth
st. and the Southern Pacific
tracks about 9:30 p.m. Wednes
day, was booked on a drunken
ess charge and placed in Jail
overnight.
Officers said that Hudspeth
had to be supported when
brought to the station and said,
-Well I'm crippled,", indicating
then that he had a permanent
disability. He told an officer
yesterday that "I can't get up."
Police called for a doctor who
ordered X-rays to be taken and
Hudspeth was taken to Sacred
Heart hospital by ambulance.
Police said Hudspeth told
them that "I fell yesterday."

She lives at a Yogi seminary.
Very Happy
"I'm sorry to hear June left
the convert," Miss Valentine
said. "I think I'll write her a
little note. I didn't know she had
ill health."
"As for me, I am very happy
here. I am in Yogi for life."
She sold her furs and gems
and entered the faith, taking its
vows of chastity for life, nearly
a year ago. '
"I am called a renunciate,"
she said. "It's the same thing as a
postulate at a convent. After
seven years I will be called a
sister.

"Our faith is a combinatio!f

ions. I will serve God either by
traveling around the word to
give lectures or, perhaps, by
working here in the office. God
will lead me to the particular
place.
Nancy, too, has to rise with the
birds at 4 a. m. to begin her long
day of prayer, meditation, spirit
ual training and work. But her
health can stand it, she said.
"When I work for God He
gives me energy," she smiled.
Another movie beauty who
gave up her career to follow God
was brunette Colleen Townsend.
She is still devoted to her relig
ious life. Her husband, Louis
Evans Jr., is studying for the
ministry at a university in Scot-land."

the market holding steady on
eggs which are in plentiful sup
ply. There is a heavy demand
for small eggs due to the differ
ence in price compared to med
ium and large eggs.

Rail Unions Launch
Drive for Pay Boost
Washington (U.R) The na
tion's railroad unions have
launched a new drive to win
substantial pay boosts for 1,300,
000 rail workers.
Four unions representing
300,000 engineers, firemen t, con
ductors and switchmen served
notice on more than 200 major
railroads that they want to begin
negotiations immediately for
wage increases up to 40 cents
an hour. Contracts throughout
the industry ran out at mid
night. Sixteen other unions were
due to follow shortly in a move
that will bring virtually all rail
management and labor to 'the
bargaining table.

Defendant was Edward T. Tur

Hancock was passenger in a
car driven by Russell Gambel,
Yakima, Wash., at time of the
collision. Gambel originally was
a defendant, but settlement was
reached out of court, it was
learned.

Dunsmuir Sawmill Destroyed by Flames
Dunsmuir, Calif. (U.R) The
Dunsmuir Lumber company saw
mill was destroyed by fire here
Wednesday by an explosion and
the resulting fire.
Damage estimated ranged be
tween $150,000 and $200,000.
Jack L. Dempsey, who heard
the explosion, said the fire
"seemed to start all over at
once." Cause of the blast was
not determined immediately.
The sawmill is owned by Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Burgoyne, Klam
ath Falls. Burgoyne said it was
too early to determine whether
the structure would be rebuilt.
