Civil Service Commission said
today It will hold examinations
to fill the vacant postmastership
at Grants Pass and Eagle Creek,
A written test will be held at
Portland for the Eagle Creek Job,
but no written examination will
be held for the post at Grants
Pass. The Commission said ap
plications for the examination
must be received here not later
than Sept 8.
llavy Trainer Planes
Crash; Two Pilots Die
. Pensacola, Fla. CUJ3 Two
Navy trainer planes collided
over this naval air station late
last night and plunged to earth
less than 100 .yards from the
nurses' quarters, killing the two
student pilots.
The Navy identified the pilots,
whose bodies were recovered, as
Ens. Robert L. Coffyn, 23, and
Lt JG Blllie L. Flostram, 25.
Coffyn was survived by bis
widow, Jenet, who was living
Wednesday, Jkagoat IS. 1939

Carter that the city change its
name to Tort Vancouver met
with widespread approval in a
survey conducted by the news
paper. The suggestion was made to
help avoid confusion with Van

Roseburg Man Loses Supreme Court Appeal

sentenced to three years in Ore
gon state penitentiary.
The high court, in an opinion
by Justice George Rossman, said
Monk did not plead former
Jeopardy as permitted by law
"and his failure to have done
so constituted a waiver of former
Jeopardy as a defense."
Roseburg today lost his 'appeal
to the Oregon Supreme Court
from his conviction la Douglas
county of embexiling $257.25
while he was manager of the
Veterans lounge.
The money belonged to the
Patrick Kelly post of Veterans of
Foreign Wars. A former convic
tion was reversed upon appeal.
