New York OJ.PJ Well, who
will it be in the starting game of
the World Series at Yankee
Stadium, Tuesday, Oct 6 Ed
Lopat or Preacher Roe?
Since everything else was
about settled today in the major
league pennant races it seemed
appropriate to speculate a little
on wholl do the hurling when
the Dodgers and Yankees meet
again, and the two veteran lefties
looked like good bets.
The Yankees wound up their
"wrap up the pennant week
end" on a negative note yester
day by losing the finale to the
White Sox 3-0 on the three-hit
pitching of lefty Billy Pierce,
but they already had dashed the
hopes of the second place Chi
cagoans by winning the three
previous games of the series.
Rasch! Pitched Homer
Bob Boyd hit Vic Raschi'
first pitch of the game for a
homer and added two more
singles, driving in another run
to pace the Sox to their anti
climatic triumph. Pierce pitched
his 19th victory and struck out
eight to take over the major
league lead again with a total
CJ137.
The Dodgers won 9-1 at Cin
cinati on Russ Meyer's three
hitter and a grand slam homer
by Duke Snider which sewed it
up, but their lead over Mil
waukee; was reduced to seven
games when the Braves defeated
the Pirates 7-4 and 10-3,
In other National League
games the Cardinals topped the
Giants 6-2 and the Phils blanked
Chicago 7-0.
Other Games
The Red Sox dropped a 9-3 de
cision to Cleveland in which Bob
Avila, Joe Tipton, and Bob Ken
nedy hit homers for the Indians.
They made 14 hits behind Mike
Garcia, who won his 14th game.
Ray Murray's pinch-single in
the ninth gave the Athletics a
4-3 victory over Detroit and the
tems battled to an 8-8 10-inning
tie in curfew-halted second game.
Gus Zernial took over the
American League home run
leadership with blasts in both
games, giving him a total of 29.-
St. Louis topped Washington
3-0 with three runs in the ninth
on singles by Don Lenhardt, Les
Moss, and Bill Hunter plus two
errors, but the Senators came
back to win the second, 12-3.

Slo-Mo Shun

Cup Event
Seattle (U.R) Stan Sayres'
Slo-Mo-Shun IV still was speed
queen of the waterways today.
The "old lady." the fastest
boat in the world, upheld her
reputation for the third time
yesterday in winning the 46th
running of the Gold Cup race,
the classic of the speedboat
world.
Slo-Mo kicked her rooster tail
wake in the face of a dozen
contenders from Detroit who
tried desperately to return the
golden goblet to the Michigan
metropolis.
She toured the 90 mile grind
easily to win with an average
speed of 92.61 mph. Only three
boats finished.
More than 300,000 persons
watched the race.
Lee Schoenith's Gale II was
the only boat that gave the
Seattle champion anything like
a run for her money, but even
then the effort was far short of
being a serious threat. Gale II
was second and Jack Schafer's
Such Crust III was third.
