Quality Uniformity
Noted in 4-H, FFA
Fair, Agent Says
The 4-H, FFA fair starting to
day at the fairgrounds is mark
ed by more uniformity of qual
ity than usual in the stock sec
tion, R. H. Cate, Jr., county
agent in 4-H work, told mem
bers of the Medford Rotary club
here Tuesday.
Speaking at a luncheon meet
ing at the Jackson hotel, Cate
outlined the diversified program
for the 1952 fair, designed to ap
peal to the public, and voiced
appreciation of community co
operation. Special commenda
tion was extended to Robert
Fowler for his work in provid
ing facilities for the fair this
season, and to Chairman Oliver
Morton and his Medford Rotary
club committee for promotion
of the annual event.
Mew Projects
New projects which are mak
ing the 4-H program more ap
pealing to youngsters include
forestry, practical farm electric
ity, tractor maintenance, wood
working, wool growing, flower
and vegetable gardening and
hobbies. Cate also expressed his
thanks to the Medford Rotary
club for making possible his
trip to Chicago last winter for
the 4-H conference, attended by
1,500 youngsters representing
the U.S., its possessions and 17
foreign countries. The conduct
of the 4-H boys and girls at this
gathering was lauded.
Linda Malloroy, Antelope 4-H
member, told Rotarians of her
activities in club work, which
includes stock raising and var
ious phases of home economics.
Miss Malloroy wore a dress
which she had made and design
ed. . Morton was chairman of the
meeting, and in his introduct
ory remarks congratulated Cate
and Fowler for their contribu
tions to the 4-H program in this
area.

In BLM Timber Sale

was the only bidder Tuesday
for a 460,000-board-foot public
domain timber area in the For
est creek area west of Jackson
ville, according to District For
ester E. K. Peterson, of the
Bureau of Land Management.
Timber Products' sealed bid
was $108 over the appraised
price of $8,500 and was accept
ed, Peterson said.
Tracts of 3,100,000 board feet
in the Emigrant creek drainage
near Ashland and 285,000 board
feet in a salvage fire - kill tract

Peterson announced bids will
be accepted the next 90 days
for these two tracts.
The next timber sale on O

will be August 25 at the BLM
office in city hall. There will
be an oral bid sale of 2,500,000
board feet of Douglas fir and

ed bid sales include one of 90,
000 board feet that must be re
moved to clear the view of Ser
pentine Point lookout, and one
of 545,000 feet of Douglas fir
one mile east of Highway 99.
