J. L. Jeffers told the' Port of
Detroit authority he had been
commissioned to sell the tunnel
"to anybody" for' that sum but
he was giving them first crack
at it.
The major fly in the ointment,
although the Port Authority said
it was interested, is that it does
not have legal permission to buy
any tunnels.

added to already . smouldering
fires. As a result, the person gets
more and more bitter as time
goes on.
Strong Desire Needed
What can be done to help
such a person? It takes hard
work on the person's part plus
a strong desire to char.ge. Fur
thermore, it's easier to correct
in childhood than in later years.
Fundamentally, the change
can come only when there is a
change in the person's outlook
on life. He must convince him
self that things are not as bad

Emotional Tension: "What
makes a person excitable and
easily upset? Can, this be con
trolled?" (A) Emotional tension and ex
citability come from lack of
training in emotional control or
from some physical cause, such
as a glandular or calcium defic
iency. It is fairly easy for a doc
tor to discover the cause if it is
physical, and treat it. When,
however, excitability has no
physical basis and comes entire
ly from lack of control over the
emotions, the cure must come
from the individual himself. A
doctor, psychiatrist, or friend of
the family can tell the-person
how to control his temper. The
actual bringing of the emotions
under control must come from
the efforts of the person him
self. Meddling Families: "Most of
my teen-age friends complain
that their families are constantly
meddling in their affairs, telling
them what to do and how to do
it. How can we control our fam
ilies?" (A) A teenager has a lot of
nerve to talk about "controlling"
families. Don't you and your
friends realize what terrific sac
rifices of time, energy, and
money your parents have made
for you? And, don't you realize
that they are trying to help you

Legion Convention
Charges Tested by
Over 175 Diplomats
Washington (U.R) The
American Legion's sharp 1951
convention charges against- the
State Department are being test
ed by more than 175 department
diplomats who are seeking a
charter for a Legion post of
their own.
The State Department veter
ans want to get their organized
post in the Legion to fight the
charges at the next Legion con
vention to be held in New York
in August.
Many of the diplomat-veterans
hold high-ranking positions
in the State Department. They
disagreed to a man with the
1951 Miami Legion convention
resolution calling for removal of
State Department "leaders
whose too-frequent action has
reflected incompetency, . indeci
sion and defeatism."
Strongly Worded
Passed by an overwhelming
majority, the resolution said
that "once again we ' reiterate
our condemnation of the failure
of the State Department to deal
adequately with the grim and
bloody advance of Communism
throughout ,ie world.
"The propel foreign policy
demands dynamic and courag
eous leadership on the part of
our international policy makers.
We do not have enough of that
kind of leadership in the State
Department today.'.'
The language of the Legion
condemnation furrowed the
brows of the department's veter
ans. A follow-up survey showed
that approximately 55 per cent
of the men in the State Depart
ment and foreign service were
veterans. A vote showed that
more than 175 would join a .de
partment post if a charter could
be obtained from the District of
Columbia Legion organization.

Coast Guard here at 12:50 a.m.

The Navy also sent the sea
going tug USS Cahokia from

reached Drakes Bay her list had
reduced to 15 degrees? She had a
crew of 31 aboard.
The freighter was bound for
Long Beach, Calif., with a loan

State Police Continue
Search for OSP Escapees
Salem (U.R) State Police and
prison guards Saturday con
tinued their search for two state
prison convicts who escaped
from the penitentiary farm last
Wednesday.
Joseph Martin Trapp, 20, who
escaped Friday afternoon, was
recaptured a few hours later as
he was walking along a road
north of Salem. Still missing
from a bean picking crew on the
prison farm were Charles P.
Duncan, 39, and Thomas E. Mc
Intee, 31.
Fluttering Paper Found
To Be Certified Check
Louisville, Ky. (U.R) A
piece of paper fluttering on the
sidewalk caught the attention
of Rodney L. Reams.
Reams found it to be a certi
fied check for $26,858.38. The
check had been issued by Joseph
E. Segram and Sons, and was
payable to the collector of in
ternal revenue.
Reams notified the embarrass
ed distilling company. A woman
employee had dropped the check
the Department's visa division
and one of the Legion's founders
after his World War I service,
was particularly stung by the
Legion's action at Miami.
L'Heureaux played a key role
in undertaking initial organiza
tion steps for the department
post and was elected first com
mander to head the fight for a
charter"
Carlisle H. Humelsine, deputy
undersecretary of state and a
World War II colonel on Gen.
George C. Marshall's staff, was
elected senior vice commander.
Humelsine is in charge of de
partment -. personnel, some of
whom have come under heavy
charges of pro-Communist sym
pathies by Sen. Joseph R. Mc
Carthy, (R-Wis.).

Agriculture Department
Slates Public Hearings

stock marketing areas, Sept. 8

The department said one of
the proposed changes would deal
with unfair trade practices.
The scheduled hearings in

The Packers and Stockyards
Act was adopted in 1921 to pro
tect livestock producers and pub
lic from unfair trade practices
