SECURITY COUNCIL The meeting site for the Pacific Security
Council will be this portion of the Marine Corps Air Station at
Kaneohe, Hawaii. The station was reactivated and commissioned
as a Marine Corps Air Station January, 1952. Mokapu Peninsula,
on which the station is located, is virtually an island, connected
only by a thin causeway on the northeast side of Oahu.
On The Side
By E. V. Durling
(Distributed by King Features Syndicate, Inc.)
Does your wife try to make
her feet appear much smaller
than they are? After calling her
attention to the "obey" in the
marriage ceremony, order her to
stop wearing heels that are too
high and shoes too small. Tight
shoes not . only make a female
irritable but also make her age
more rapidly. It is said when a
woman takes a half an inch off
the size of her feet with tight
shoes she adds ten years to her
iacial appearance.
Mules & Men
Too many bachelors are lured
into matrimony before they are
ready Sor it. I feel it is our duty
to aid susceptible single young
men to avoid being" prematurely
captured by clever husband
hunters. Among the danger
signs to be watched, for are cer
tain remarks made by design
ing young women. For example:
"Your mother is charming." Or:
"You're just a big helpless
baby." Or: "I was reading an
astrology book last night. Our
signs are compatible." Or:
"Come to my house tomorrow
night. Enjoy a real home cooked
dinner. I'm going to do the cook
ing." Also, young fellow, when a
girl starts stopping you in front
of furniture store windows, be
very much on your guard. She
has matrimony on her mind and
ou are her choice.
Japanese Ringman
Ever see a Japanese boxer?
Neither have I. However, now
there is a - Japanese . flyweight
named Yoshio Shirai reported to
be of Championship caliber. Do
you consider yourself a well in
formed sports fan? Then tell us
how much a flyweight boxer
weighs.' That is, what is the
weight limit for flyweights? .
First Lady
- One of the - most - talented
White House hostesses was a
beautiful violet -eyed blonde
spinster. That was Harriet Lane,
niece of the bachelor President
James Buchanan. Life in the
White House was very, gay .with
Harriet in charge of the enter
taining. One of her best parties
was - in honor of the Prince of
Wales, later King Edward VII.
Harriet did not marry until she
was 36. Her husband was a Bal
timorean, Henry JS. Johnston!
The ' Harriet Lane Home, . still
very active in Baltimore, was
established by her. Any sick
child up. to 14, regardless -of
race, creed or color, is eligible
for treatment at this homeYAge
limit was put at 14 because it
was at that age the oldest son of
the founder died.
Asking .
. Queries from clients: Q An
old fellow here in Seattle says
he was present at the shooting
of Dan McGrew whom he knew
well. Also says he was acquaint
ed with the "Lady Known as
Lou." Is that possible?. A There
never were any such- persons
as Dan McGrew or the "Lady
Known as Lou." Both characters
were fictitious and created by
Poet Robert W. Service. Q
Who is the patron saint of acr

Eggsi
Has always been my belief
eggs produced by barnyard hens
are of better guality and tastier
than; those of so-called "battery
hens." So I 4was interested in
learning of a man who is in the
"battery hen" egg production
busirjess, but for his own con
sumption he uses the eggs pro
duced by the barnyard hens on
a farm he owns.

Oregonians Warned
Portland (U.R) The State
Board of Health has warned that
needless fatalities may occur un
less Oregonians refrain from
over-exertion and over-exposure
to the sun during the current hot
weather.
Dr. Gordon C. Edwards, act
ing state health officer, said that
sun stroke or heat exhaustion
may strike anyone, although se
rious cases appear most often
among persons suffering from
any general disease, alcoholics,
young children, elderly people
and persons who are overweight.
British - gas turbine automobile
with engine in the rear recently
achieved a speed of 152 miles
an hour. Is not a racing car but
a passenger vehicle. It uses dif
ferent kinds of fuel. In the afore
mentioned test paraffine was
used.
Psychology Tried To Help
Curb Oregon Forest Fires
Portland U.P.) Pacific North

on the psychologists to help solve
a vexing forest fire problem.

Portland (U.R) More than
1,200 persons will die from acci
dents in Oregon this year if the
present rate continues, the State
Board of Health has predicted. .
The department warned that
latest national figures showed
Oregon to be the sixth most dan
gerous state in the nation and
said that "unless our residents
and visitors start displaying
something other than the preva
lent 'it never happens to me'
attitude, it appears certain we
will top last year's 1,234 acci
dental death toll."
Up to June, before the heavy
accidental death vacation period
had started, the state board vital
statistics section recorded 477
deaths, 1.1 per cent above fig
ures for the same period last
year.

Industrial Forestry Association,
arises from carelessness of mo

campers who leave fires unat

burning.
Yearly Toll Heavy
Hagenstein said fires caused
by these careless acts which in
nine out of 10 cases start within
100 yards of main travelled roads
and highways take a yearly toll
of millions of dollars of valuable
young trees and timber.
How to reduce this careless
ness has stumped forestry ex
perts for years, Hagenstein said.

This is where the psychologist
enters the, picture.
"Maybe they can tell us how
to reach the very small percent
age of the public who still per

said Hagenstein. "At least, it is
worth a trial."
The forestry official said may
be the psychologists can invent
a new "dunce-cap technique" to

what makes an unconscious ar
