Hearing Set on
Graham Protest
- New York (U.R) Chairman
Bob Christenberry indicated
Tuesday that the New York State
Boxing Commission , will hold a
hearing Thursday into Billy
Graham' protest of his surprise
defeat by Joey Giardello.
Giardello, 23-year-old Phila
delphian, was a 4 to 1 underdog
against the 29-year-old Graham
of New York in Monday night's
10-round bout at Brooklyn's East
ern Parkway arena. Joey won
the votes of two of the three of
ficials. '
The defeat could be a heavy
blow to Graham's hopes for a
return title bout against Cham
pion Kid Gavilan, to whom he
lost a hotly-disputed 15-round
title decision last August.

Water Main Discussed for
Growing Area North of City
Central Point The feasibili
ty of constructing a trunk line
water main: along Highway 99
from Medford to Central Point
was discussed informally last
night at a meeting here. r
A group 'of property and busi
ness owners alpng the highway
between the two cities met with
the Central Point city council
and expressed the desire to ob
tain a water main sometime in
the future. They voiced optimism
as to the growth of the area and
agreed it is inevitable that such
a move must be made at some
date in the future because of the
increasing ' industrial and resi
dential expansion in the area.
Building Planned
Thomas Hight, Medford realtor.
representing Mason-Ehrman com
pany which is in the process of
construction a large warehouse,
said he knew of "five concerns
desirous of building in the area
if adequate water is available.
They would employ from 240 to
270 people, he stated.
George Flanagan, representing
Elk Lumber company, expressed
the hope of the lumber firms in
the area for more water to sup
ply their mill ponds. He said
that the present well-system is
not adequate in dry years like
1951 which almost forced his con
cern to shut down after the pond
water level fell 18 inches.
Tentative Plans
Tentative plans would call for
a 20-inch main from . the Med
ford reservoir to a 16-inch main
through the industrial area and
12-inch main to Central Point.
The need for a "further main to
the suburban area of Medford
was noted as well as more water
for Central Point.- An added
main would make a "circulatory
system to Central Point," which
was deemed desirable for the
city.
"Such a project was stated by
all to be only in the "embryo"
stage, but worthy of planning for
the future development and
growth of "the area. No plans of
any. nature were agreed to by
either group. -

Salem (U.R) Capitol guides
expect August to be the peak
month for tourists in Salem
though statehouse tours were
busy seven days a week through
July.
The secretary of state's office
has reported that visitors from
neighboring California and
Washington were the most num
erous among the hundreds tour
ing the marble seat of Oregon's
government.
Californians Lead
Californians led the tourist
parade with 372 individual
groups listed on the guest regis
ter at the capitol - information
booth. Washington was second
with 163 registered and mid
westerners from Illinois were in
third place with 77. Fifty Cana
