Increase fo 11;
Members Elected
The number of members on
the board of directors of the
Community hospital were in
creased from nine to eleven at a
meeting here Friday afternoon.
Two new directors were named,
and officers of the board were
elected.
The Rt. Rev. Benjamin Dag
well, bishop of the Episcopal
diocese of Oregon, presided at
the annual meeting. The resigna
tion of Allen Smith from the
board, was accepted, and the
board tendered him thanks for
his many years of service to the
hospital.
New Members
Two new board members, A.
A. Lausmann and Jack Craw
ford, were elected at the meet
ing. Other board members in
clude Bishop Dagwell, Mrs.
Leonard Carpenter, Leon Boom
er, the Rev. George R. V. Bolst
er, rector of St. Mark's Episco
pal church, Alfred S. V. Car
penter, Eugene Thorndike and
Otto Frohnmayer. One addition
al member, to make a total of
11, will be elected later.
Bishop Dagwell was elected
president of the board, and Mr.
Bolster was named vice presi
dent. Norris was elected secre
tary and Thorndike treasurer.
Bishop Dagwell. who has been
head of the hospital since it was
taken over by the Episcopal
diocese earlier this year, named
Alfred Carpenter to head the
board's finance committee; Mr.
Bolster to head the executive
committee, and Boomer to head
the buildings and grounds com
mittee. Three physicians, Drs. Russell
Barnes, L. D. Inskeep and W.
W. Stevenson, were appointed
to form a liaison committee
from the medical staff to work
with the executive committee on
hospital matters.
Accept Resignation
The board accepted the resig
nation of Miss Ruth Nelson as
superintendent of the hospital.

appreciation for "long and
faithful service." Candidates for
appointment to succeed Miss
Kelson are being interviewed.
In the interim, Robert Wilkins
of the staff of the Good Samari
tan hospital in Portland is act
ing administrator.
In other action, the board vot
ed to expand anesthetic services,
and to employ an additional
anesthetist at the hospital. Ap
plicants are now being screened
for this position.
Plans for Disaster
To Be Considered
A meeting to plan the organi- j
zation of volunteer service units
at key points throughout the
county for food, clothing and
shelter in any disaster, will be
held at 10 a.m., Friday, August
8. at the Lincln school gymna
sium, it was announced today.
Mrs. Katharine Chambers, a
disaster field representative for
the American Red Cross, will be
the main speaker, and will as
sist in getting the units orga
nized on an effective basis. Mrs.
Chambers is one of the Red
Cross "trouble shooters," who is
assigned to most major disasters,
and will bring personal experi
ence to assist the Jackson
.county people who are setting
up the organizations.
Members of Grange home
economic units (which have
been assigned an important role
in the plan), representatives of
Parent-Teacher groups in the
county, and members of Home
Extension units, as well as Red
Cross volunteer service workers,
will attend.
Further announcements of
progress in the work will be
made from time to time, a Red
Cross spokesman said, including
notice of an experiment in mass
feeding techniques to be con
ducted by the Roxy Ann
Grange.
Gasoline Test Car
Coming Here Tuesday
One of the Du Pont company's
new gasoline test cars will be
at Baylor's Union service station,.
Central avenue and Jackson
street, Tuesday. The test car is
used to illustrate graphically the
road testing of gasoline.
I: provides information on per
formance of fuel stocks under
varying road conditions for gas
oline marketers and refiners.
The car is specially equipped
with laboratory instruments and
is believed one of the most mod
ern of its" kind.
The public is invited to the
station to view the ar.
TOO BIG-HEARTED
Singapore (U.R) This thief
was too generous. A 22-year-old
Chinese burglar stole $1,300
from a shop in Penang, in North
Malaya, and then gave a treat
to his friends. The feast led to
his arrest and he was given a
year in prison.
