Held in San Diego;
Couple at Home There
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lyle
Hughes are now making their
home in San Diego, Calif., fol
lowing their wedding June 12 at
San Diego.
The bride is the former Miss
Annabell Jones, daughter of
Mrs. W. Hintin, route 2, box 220,
Medford, and Leon Jones,
Princeton, Ore. The bride-
groom's parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Raleigh Hughes, Medford.
Mrs. Hintin accompanied her
daughter to the California city
for the wedding which was held
at 5 o'clock in the afternoon at
Wedding Bell chapel. The bride
wore an aqua blue dress with
flowered trim for the ceremony.

center with the transit section
The . bride attended Medford
Junior high school.

Medford Woman
Returns From Trip
Mrs. Ida Lockwood, 816 South
Newtown street, returned last
week after visiting a week in
Seattle, Wash., and other north
ern points. She was accompained
by her nephew, Dale Newlin,
and Mrs. Newlin. Her nephew
is with the Douglas aircraft com
pany at Los Angeles.

Attend Orchard
Tour, Field Day
About 100 persons attended
the second annual orchard tour
and field day held here Friday.
The tour was conducted under
the joint sponsorship of the
Jackson County Fruit Growers
league and the State Horticul
tural Society.
C. B. Cordy, county horticul
tural agent, was tour conductor,
and others who spoke during the
day ' included Dr. Elliott Deg
man, superintendent of the
branch experiment stations
here; Dr. L. G. Gentner, station
entomologist, and Prof. Henry
Hartman, of Oregon State col
lege. Four Stops
The tour included stops at
Klamath orchards, to observe an
experimental wind machine for
raising temperatures in the
orchard; the Medford branch ex
periment station; the Chris
Wolff place, and the Talent
branch experiment station. A
picnic luncheon was served af
ter the tour by ladies of the
Phoenix Grange at TouVelle
state park, where farm and
orchard equipment dealers dis
played their wares.

ard development and protection,
experiments in the use of mulch
es and in grafting, and other
matters of interest to fruit grow
ers, were shown and discussed
during the day.

Antelope 4-H Beef Club
The Antelope Beef club met at
the home of Elbert Bigham Wed
nesday, July 30.
Leonard Freeman gave a dem
onstration on "How to Fit an
Angus," and Bernice Bigham
gave a demonstration on iow
to Fit a Hereford Steer." Young
er members tried their luck at
fitting a steer with Bernice s
guidance. Later showmanship
was discussed and practiced.
Home made ice cream and
cake was enjoyed by everyone.

Fish Story
This time of year, when fresh
fish are plentiful and economi
cal, is a good time to get ac
quainted with the many varieties
available not only near ocean
and lakes but in inland towns,
thanks to modern refrigeration.
Secret of success in cooking
fish is not to overcook it, and to
season it properly. Fish is bland,
and takes well to simple sauces,
such as the Tabasco sauce be
low. A high quality protein food,
there are some 160 varieties of
fish sold in the United States.
Here are pictured, reading top
to bottom, three salt water va
rieties, sea bass, mackerel and
porgie, and three fresh water
species, white fish, yellow pike
and brook trout.
An easy and appetizing way
of preparing fish for the table is
by simple broiling. To serve four,
plan on 1 pound of fillets or
steaks or four small fish, and
3 to 4 tablespoons of fat. Preheat
broiler. Cut fillets or steaks into
serving pieces. Grease the broil
er rack lightly. Place fish on
rack, skin side up; brush with
melted fat. Place rack 2 to 3
inches from heat. Broil fish 5 to
8 minutes or until brown, and
serve with this tangy sauce.
Tabasco Butter Sauce:
4 tablespoons butter or
margarine
4V4 teaspoons lime juice
Vi teaspoon Tabasco
1 tablespoon minced parsley
Melt butter in saucepan. Add
lime juice and Tabasco; heat.
Add parsley. Yield: Approxi
mately 13 cup.

Local Timber On List
For August 19 Sale
Portland (U.R) The Bur
eau of Land Management Satur
day announced that eight parcels
of timber totalling 17,216,000
board feet on public lands would
go on sale August 19.
The timber is located in Ok
anogan county, Wash.; Clear
water, county, Idaho, and in
four Oregon counties, Jackson,
Douglas, Deschutes and Crook.
The Jackson-Douglas timber
totals 3,845,000 board feet, in
cluding 15,350 linear feet of
western red cedar poles. The
Deschutes-Crook timber totals
6,235,0000 board feet.

coe E. Bell said 32,224,000 board
feet of O & C timber, including
6,140 linear feet of pilings, was
sold during July for $823,562.50.
Young GOP Meet
Scheduled Friday
All Jackson county young Re
publicans under 39 years of age
are invited to attend the first
meeting of a series to precede
the general election, on Friday,
August 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the
Pioneer room of Medford's Jack
son hotel, according to Bob
Dickey, county Young GOP
chairman.
Featured speaker will be Wil
liam McAllister, delegate to the
Republican national convention
in Chicago last month. He will
give his impressions of the con
vention and the workings of
party politics in a general dis
cussion period, Dickey ex
plained. The county chairman noted
that "the Young Republicans j
now have a candidate and plat-1
form behind which all forces
can unite." He expressed the
idea that consolidation by party
members has taken place and a
united front can be expressed
by meetings of the various Re
publican groups.
Picnic Planned
Reports will also be made by
Director Dick House on a pro
posed picnic by the Young Re
publicans, . and by George Sen
natt, Ashland director, on pro
gress in the organization of a
college club at Southern Oregon
college.
Every Young Republican in
the county is urged to attend
the meeting, Dickey stressed,
whether a member of the orga
nization or not. He pointed out
that future meetings of the
group will hold platform discus
sions and generally inform
party members of current party
policies and workings within
the framework of a major party
in America.
