Preacher, Police
Chief Now Friendly
Mattoon, 111 U.R) A preach
er and a police chief have been
on the outs but the air seems to
be cleared now.
The Rev. La Rue Jensen of Al
ton, 111., received a letter from
the Mattoon police asking him to
pay fines for two traffic tickets
issued to a car bearing his li
cense number.
"I've never been in Mattoon
in my life," the preacher wrote
to the Mattoon police. "One
hates to think a police depart
ment would engage in a racket
of collecting fines from innocent
citizens."
The Mattoon police chief re
plied that the officer must have
made a mistake in copying tne
number and issued an invitation
to the preacher to visit Mattoon
and see for himself that there
were no rackets here.
