Jones-Cannon Rites
Take Place July 3
In Methodist Church
- Miss Nola L. Cannon became
the bride of Aaron W. Jones in
an afternoon wedding July 3 at
"First Methodist church, Reno,
Nev.
The bride is the daughter of
Air. and Mrs. G. M. Cannon, 204
Hamilton street, Medford, and
'the bridegroom's father C. V.
Jones lives at 2198 Buckshot
road, Medford.

The bride was dressed in a
suit of navy' .blue and white ac
cessories for the wedding.
The couple are making their
home at 2198 Buckshot road.
An employee of the Mail Trib
une, the bride attended Medford
high school. The bridegroom is
employed by Red-E-Cut log in
dustries and also attended Medford-:
high school.
The newlyweds were honored
at a shower July 7 at the home
of C. V. Jones. Mrs. A. V. Jones,
sister-in-law of the bridegroom
was hostess for the party, and
about 15 guests attended.
Another shower was given by
Mrs. Roliin Jones and Mrs. Fred
Lyon at the home of Mrs. Jones,
2lJ Hamilton street, on Tuesday,
July 11. The party was an outdoor-
affair, and wedding bells
decorated, the Jones' yard. Gifts
were hung on the clothesline,
and the bridegroom went
through the ceremony of gather
ing them from the line. About
25 guests attended the shower.

Harold Delwin McKay, Roseburg. About 40 Medford friends were
in Roseburg for the ceremony.

of Mrs. C L. Ogle of Grants
Pass, a past queen of Zuleima
temple who was appointed su
preme chaplain of the supreme
temple, Daughters of the Nile, at
the June national session held in
Portland, Ore.

quets were of white gladiolus
and other flower arrangements
were of deep red gladiolus in
baskets. The pew ends were dec
orated with white bows with
sprays of red gladiolus.

For her wedding the bride
wore a gown of net and lace
with a lace panel extending into
the train. She carried a cascade
of small white orchids and steph
anotis. Miss Sherry Antony,
Medford, honor attendant, wore
a frock of yellow eyelet em
broidery and organdy and car
ried a spray of deep red gladi
olus. Bridesmaids were Misses
Nancy Lageson, Medford, Miss
Jean Gibbons, sister oi the bride,
and Mrs. Max Hiatt, sister of
the bridegroom whose wedding
was held earlier in the summer.
Their gowns matched that worn
by the honor attendant, and they
carried gladiolus.
Caroline and Lee Wimberly,
daughter and son of Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Wimberly Jr., Med
ford, were flower girl and ring
bearer. L 1 o.y d Anderson, Oakland,
Ore., was best man for the bride
groom and ushers were Jack
Luoma, Robert Sullivan, James
Helliwell and Max Hiatt.
The reception which followed
was in the parish house. Mrs.
Fitzhugh Brewer and Mrs.
Dwight Findley, both Medford,
cut the wedding cake and Mrs.
Bayard Getchell and Mrs. B. L.
Lageson, also Medford, poured.
Miss Janny Lou Houghton, Med
ford took charge of the guest
book. About 200 guests attended.
For the wedding and recep
tion the bride s mother wore a
beige lace gown with nylon net
skirt' and matching accessories.
Her flowers were green orchids.
The bridegroom's mother was
attired in powder blue crepe and
lace worn with pink hat and
gloves and a corsage of pink
carnations.
Following the reception the
bride's parents were hosts for
a champagne supper for guests
from out of the city and the bri
dal party, the supper being at
the Gibbons home on Cherry
lane. About 50 attended.

Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority
I members met in the gardens of
Mrs. Eloise Winklebleck Mon
day evening for a jewel pin
ceremony. Pledges taken into
membership were Miss Dolores
Lee, Miss Beverly Lyman, Miss
Barbara Niedermeyer and Mrs.
W. H. Fischer.
Three past presidents were
honored and given pins signifi
cant of their service to the sor
ority. These were Mrs. Chester
Peterson, Mrs. Dorthea Gustaf
son, and Mrs. Roy Howe.
The gardens were beautifully
decorated with Japanese lan
terns, and ; tables were set in
blue and yellow.
During the latter part of the
fvening Miss Doris Drost, presi
dent, gave a report of her trip to
San Antonio, Tex., for the na
tional Epsilon Sigma Alpha convention.

Miss Jewett is the bride-elect

and their wedding is set for
August 16.

Heyday Important
Event of Weekend
Important on the calendar to
day is the third annual Bard's
Heyday, to be held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Berthold Bar
num, South Pacific highway.
The event calls attention to the
opening of the 12th annual Ore
gon Shakespearean festival in
Ashland August 1, and is spon
sored by Tudor guild.
Mrs. Charles T. Ely, ticket
chairman, announced Saturday
that no tickets will be sold at
the gate today, since only a few
reservations remain. However,
these will be filled by telephone
and persons wishing to attend
are asked to call Mrs. Ely,
2-2647 this morning.
The Heyday will open at 5
p.m. with serving of supper on
the lawn, and a program of mu
sic, dancing and informal talks
will follow. The day's events
will close with swimming and a
social hour.

Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a gown
of white brocaded taffeta and a
band of pearls held her finger
tip length veil. She carried
white carnations on a white
Bible, and wore lace mitts.
Miss Alverna Gillispie, sister
of the bridegroom, was honor at
tendant. Her gown was of em
broidered pink taffeta and she
carried a colonial bouquet of
pink and white carnations and
also wore a headpiece of these
flowers. Misses Alice White and

with headpieces of carnations
and carried colonial bouquets of

Held at Christian Church
An event of July 9 was the wedding of Miss Claudia Mae
Cooper and Edwin B. Gillispie which took place at First Chris
tian church. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude V.
Cooper, 528 Hamilton street, and Mr. Gillispie is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. Delmar Gillispie, route 1, box 369A, Medford.
The vows were said at nine
Ray Glass was best man for
the bridegroom, and ushers
were Dale Cooper, brother of
the bride, and Roland Glass.
Arrangements of pink and
white gladiolus with palms and
ferns formed a setting for the
bridal party and the reception
rooms were decorated with bas
kets of white daisies and hy
drangea. Sweetpeas and pink
candles were placed on the
mantle.
Miss Carole King, Eugene,
took charge of the guest book
and Miss Leora Gillispie, sister
of the bridegroom, the gifts.
Mrs. Bernice Merrill, Roseburg,
poured and Mrs. Eloise Winkle
bleck cut the wedding cake.
About 125 guests attended.

Mrs. Ebba E. Schlegel and the
Rev. William L. Deming were
married Sunday, July 13, in a
quiet ceremony held at 4 o'clock
at 216 Portland avenue were the
Rev. Mr. Deming has lived for
the past eight years.
The Rev. R. W. Mathewson,
pastor of Four Square Gospel
church, officiated. Mr. and Mrs.
Francis Chapman attended the
couple, and a small group of stu
dents of the Deming Bible insti
tute was also present. A recep
tion followed the ceremony.
The Rev. Mr. Deming has been
a minister and teacher of the
Bible for many years. The for
n.er Mrs. Schlegel. who recently
came here from Portland, served
as a missionary to Alaska for 14
years.
Mrs. Deming will assist her
husband at the Bible insti
tute, and the couple will live
at 216 Portland avenue.

Held in Nevada
Mr. and Mrs. Chester Bourne,

marriage of their daughter. Miss
Carolyn Bourne, to Donald
Gene Cearley, airman thirl
class in the United States air
force, which took place July 11
at Reno, Nevada.
The bridegroom is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. John Cearley,
Medford. Mrs. Cearley accom
panied the couple.
The bride will remain here
with her parents since the
bridegroom will report at Camp
Stoneman, Calif., in the near fu
ture for overseas duty.

day. The Hancocks now live in Til
