Older people sometimes get
peculiar ideas. One of the most
common is that they are tired of
their families and want a change.
Once they get this change, how
ever, they realize it's not what
they want after all. The wife
who wrote this letter would do
well to grant her husband his
whim:
Q. "What is wrong wiih a
man of 65 who no longer
cares for his wife of 45 and
wants to sell the home, divide
the money, and each go his
own way? He has no other
woman and I am not inter
ested in other men. So it seems
foolish to break up after a long
marriage. There is no effec
tion between us any more. I
am lonely living wiih him and
wonder if I would be worse
cff living apart. We have drift
ed apart since I had an oper
ation several years ago. What
do you advise?"
A. Grant your husband's wish
and give him a chance to live
his own life. Let him see how
dependent he is on you without
realizing it and how loney he
will be alone.
Don't, under any circum
stances, give him a divorce or
legal separation. He has no
grounds for either and there is
no point in breaking up your
marriage without reason.
Don't divide the property in
such a way that you will come
out with little. See that you have
ample to live on comfortably,
even if your husband comes out
short. You, as a woman, can live
cheaper than a man because
you won't have to rely upon res
taurants for meals as men do
when they are alone.
Let. your husband know this
is a "trial separation" and that

books on infant cp.re and feeding
and some medical textbooks on
these subjects completely ignore
or mention only vaguely the
baby's requirement of vitamin
B.
Full-fleged beriberi, the dis
ease due to insufficient vitamin
B intake, is as rare in North
America as full-fledged scurvy
the disease due to insufficient
vitamin C intake. Yet symptoms
and signs of vitamin C defic
iency of moderate intensity,
from prolonged or habitual re
striction of the diet, occur com
monly in infancy and childhood
and are usually not recognized
as early as mild scurvy. These
symptoms and signs uniformly
disappear if or when the child's
intake of vitamin C is kept at
the optimal level.
Now in all probability what I
say here about vitamin B-complex
fcr babies will not stick in
many readers' minds because it
isn't according to Hoyle and any
way who am I to make like an
authority? Doc Brady? That's a
laugh.

TRUCK BLAZES
A pickup truck caught fire at
Central avenue and East Main
street at 5 p. m. Monday and
the fire department was called
to put it out, according to Chief
Gordon Barker. The truck,
driven by W. J. Ferguson, of

Several boxes in the truck-bed
were burned and one tire was
