Most children, if they can get
away with it, delight in teasing
and bullying their younger
brothers and sisters. This makes
life miserable for the whole fam
ily, as the mother who wrote
the following letter is finding:
(Q) "I have five children,
ranging in age from 10 years
to one year. My two older chil
dren, both boys, take delight
in teasing the little ones. Then
lhe Utile ones come to me, cry
ing, and I have lo stop what
I am doing to comfort them.
The boys are so rough that
Ihey sometimes hurt the tod
dlers. How can I put a stop to
this teasing as it makes life
difficult for us all?" t
(A) Tell them if they tease
their brothers and sisters, they
will be sent to their rooms at
once and de
prived of some
privilege they
like, - such as
going to the
movies, ' play
ing with their
friends or
watching tele
vision.

are that they

let it be just an idle threat. Carry
through, no matter how much
they plead with you to give them
"just one more chance."
Aside from the inconvenience
this teasing causes you, it is bad
for all your children to let it
go on any longer. The little ones
are seeing a pattern of behavior
which they are likely to imitate
when they play with other chil
dren. This certainly will not
make them popular.
And it is unfair of your older
sons to pick on others smaller
than they who cannot defend
themselves. It is unsportsman
like and, unless it is curbed at
home, they are likely to do the
same when they are with neigh
borhood children. This will make
other children dislike them, not

only those who are teased. but
those who see the teasing.
Most older brothers like to
tease. They find it fun to see the
little ones cry. It gives them a
feeling of power and self-importance
to be able to be the master
of the situation, and it gives them
satisfaction for the jealousy that
invariably exists among older
children in a family. But, it must
be curbed and this is the respon
sibility of every parent who is
faced with the problem.

turned last week from Texas
where they went by plane to
visit the $3,000,000 Dr. Pepper
plant in Dallas and to enjoy a
day's fishing and swimming at
Galveston. The trip was made at
the expense of the Dr. Pepper
company and was tendered to
the local couple as the first prize
in a sales contest engaged in by
the several hundred Dr. Pepper
plants across the nation.

than a man can afford to pay for
the right to practice as a family

four years of medical school and
two years of internship should
qualify any earnest student for
general practice. I say this not

Dear Mr. Brady:
It is impossible to tell you of
the hours of pleasure I have had
reading your column . this in
addition to the knowledge . . .
Fortunately, I have a family
physician who told me, when
I asked whether he intended
to specialize that he would be
a family doctor all his life, just
as his father had been, and he
said it with reverence. ;
It was apparent to me then,
18 years ago, that this man had
dedicated his life to the relief
of human suffering. With him,
monetary gain is secondary.
It makes me and my wife,
also, feel good just to talk with
him. We love this man in the
true sense of the word. His in
spirational guidance has kept
us happy because, as he says:
"Live a good clean life in all
respects and you will be richly
rewarded with an abundance of
good health." In that we have
found, he is right.
Many more years . . . and
don't let the Grumps get you
down. . .

It was an effort to restrain
myself from breaking in upon
the New England man at the
monetary gain is secondary, to
observe that it is so with every
good doctor. It is the trick spec
ialist who charges exorbitant
fees.
Who is to blame for the pre
ponderance of so-called special
ists and phony clinics over fam
ily doctors today? Not the doc
tors. The doctors merely try to
supply what the public demands.
And you, the public, demand a
specialist for every little prob
lem or ailment you have. You
because that was the extent of
my training but because I be
lieve it would tend to restrain
the conversion of the practice
of medicine into a business.
