Age differences in marriage
can be the source of much trou
ble, especially when the wife is
the older of the two. When the
difference is so great that the
husband could be the son of the
wife, there is likely to be trouble
ahead. That is why the young
man who wrote the following
letter should watch out:

fined to a sanatorium. During
my stay here, I have fallen in
love with a nurse who is 25
years older than I. I am very
much in need of advice.
Should I marry her or wait
until I recover my health and
look around a little more?"
I can think of no greater folly
than for a man of your age to
marry a woman in the fifties,

really love her or she, you. It
is almost impossible to two peo
ple so far apart in age and in
terests to be really in love. And
unless you are really in love
there is no excuse for marriage.
Concentrate your time and en
ergies now on regaining your
health. Forget about romance
and marriage until you are in a
position to think seriously about
them. Then when you are well

in a sanatorium, you are in no
position to assume the responsi
bilities of marriage. Unless you
have a private income large
enough to support yourself and
a wife, it would not be fair for
you to ask any woman to marry
you, regardless of her age. '
The very fact that you say it
might be wise to wait and "look
around" suggests that you are
not sure in your own mind about
your feelings for this woman.

In the pamphlet "ihe Iodin Ra
tion, for which send stamped,
self-addressed envelope, there is
only this allu
sion to gray
ness: "Just as
many young
sters, more
girts than
boys, begin to
mope in their
teens for want
of iodin, so do
many mature
adults have no
pep or ambition, a tendency to
doze any time, anywhere, al
though they sleep long hours
every night, to put on more and
more slacker flesh, have dry
sallow skin, lusterless dry, fall
ing, prematurely graying hair
melancholic outlook and
manner which, to their friends,
is so different from their for
mer cheerful disposition . . ."
Although I am an internation
al quack I do not guarantee or
even promise that a suitable io
din ration will restore the pris
tine color to'gray or'graying hair.
The truth is, all I know about it
is what they tell me. A good
many readers in the course of
the past 20 years have assured
me, in the present tense, that
since they got onto the iodin ra
tion their gray or graying hair
is getting its natural color again.
There may be an occasional re
port in the files in the past tense,
enough to return home and re
sume your work, there will be
plenty of time to consider what
you want to do with the rest of
your life.
Do not hurt the feelings of
this woman who has been so
good to you during your inva
lidism. Keep up your friendship
with her, even after you return
home. She will realize in thue,
just as you will how unwise a
marriage between you would be.

Corvalis Howard Weisbrod
of Eagle Point received one of
seven major awards and medals
which were presented recently
to Air Force reserve officerltrain
ing corps cadets at the annual
Oregon State college military
review. He won the Scabbard
and Blade medal.

tions, general technical, admin
istration and logistics, and flight
operations.

stock in such reports, although I
do believe most persons whose
hair is beginning to turn gray
will find that a suitable daily ra
tion of iodin tends to stay this
and other cold gradations.
When one is depressed, blue,
tired or melancholy one sees in
the mirror the gray hairs,
wrinkles and other signs of on
coming age. When one feels
cheerful and fit one notices with
satisfaction how few gray hairs,
wrinkles and sags are showing.
Anyway a suitable iodin ration
can do no harm.
Another kind of gray look is
the nutritional deficiency an
emia of women in the thirties or
forties, a gray pallor that is
nearly as characteristic as was
the complexion of the younger
girl with the green sickness
(chlorosis) back in the 19th cen
tury. Medical name for the gray
sickness is hypochromic anemia.
It is commonly attended with
brittle, cracked, flattened or
spooned nails which show ridg
ing or pitting.
