Many County SOC
Students Get Top
Scholastic Honors

on county students who attend
ed Southern Oregon college dur
ing spring term were listed on
the honor roll for the quarter's
work which was released last
week by the registrar's office. A
total of 164 students achieved
marks of 3.0 or better during
the term.
Dan W. Cahill, Medford, and
Charles R. "Skip" Rush, Ash
land, earned perfect grade
points of 4.0 for the quarter.
Four students earned averages
of 3.5 or better for the third con
secutive quarter, Including Una
Fowler and Sam Mansfield, Ash
land: Nancy Hunter, Central
Point; and Peggy McCuriey, !
Jacksonville. Four others
achieved the high honor for the
second consecutive term, includ
ing G. Byron Backes, Ashland;!
Deane Roberts, Central Point; I
Jean Strykcr, Hornbrook, Cahf.; i
and Elizabeth " West, Rogue
River.
Other county students who
had averages of 3.5 or better in-

FOE Drill Team
To Defend Title
The drill team of Crater Lake
Aerie 2093 Fraternal Order of
Eagles will be In Albany Thurs
day, Friday and Saturday to de
fend the ritualistic! champion
ship they won at last year's
Eagle state convention.
They will again participate In
Class A ritualistic and field
drill contests.
Last Sunday five officers
from the local group visited
Crescent City, Cal., to assist In
Ihe institution of a new aerie.
Officers there were Ray Wat
kins Jr., past worthy president;
Jack Meachem, worthy presi
dent; Howard Brooks, worthy
vice-president; Eddy Olson, wor
thy chaplln; Ray Collett, worthy
conductor, and William Rogers,
inside guard.
Ted Turner, Portland, the
Grand Aerie representative, and
Eagles from Brookings, Cave
Junction and Grants Pass at
tended the meeting.
Phoenix Community
Club Election Set
Election of officers of the
Phoenix Community club and
Youth Center will be held at 8
p.m. Wednesday in the Commu
nity club house.
Officers ask all members and
participating clubs to attend
the election meeting because
several emergency matters are
to be discussed and settled.
