Department Heads
Visitors in County
Mr. and Mrs. William Ash
worth, Portland, department
commander and president of
Veterans of Foreign Wars and
auxiliary in Oregon, visited the
local post and auxiliary and the
Camp White domiciliary last
week.
Sunday the two department
heads attended a district VFW
and auxiliary meeting held at
Rogue River. Also present was
Pat Moran, Portland, depart
ment hospital chairman. Mon
day the three visitors spent the
entire day at Camp White.
Tuesday noon Mrs. Ashworth
was honored at a luncheon at
the Medford hotel. Present were
Mrs. Nora Walter, Mrs. John
Walker, Shady Cove, district
auxiliary president; Miss Laur
ene Kell, Grants Pass, president
elect; Mrs. Amy Randall, Med
ford, department hospital chair
man; Mrs. Cornelius Rost, Ash
land; Mrs. Dorothy Gustafson,
Shady Cove; Mrs. J. D. Brum
mond, Mrs. O. O. DeBerry, Mrs.
Richard Schulz, Mrs. Ivan Lusk,
Mrs. Schuster, Mrs. John Shep
herd and Mrs. Merrill Beneka.
Tuesday evening Mrs. Ash
worth attended a business meet
ing of the auxiliary.
Monday night the Ashworths
attended a formal dance given
at Camp White by VFW and
.auxiliary department officers.
Mrs. Randall was chairman.
While here the Ashworths dis
cussed the annual department
conventions of the two groups to
be held in Astoria July 9-11.
Plan Picnic
The annual picnic of Crater
Lake chapter, DAR will be held
at the Girls' Community club
at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 28.
Hostesses will be Mrs. Edwin
C. Root, Mrs. Earl Bradfish, Mrs.
Alliean Maxwell, and Mrs. A.
H. Hansen. Members are asked
to take their own service.

DutcJw-Delorie Rites
Held at Catholic Church
Sacred Heart Catholic church was the scene June 14 of the
wedding of Miss Norma Delorie to Roy Dutcher. The bride Is a
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Delorie, Newport, Prince Ed
ward island, Canada, and Mr. Dutcher is a son of Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Dutcher, Klamath Falls.
The Rev. C. J. Linehan read
the service at three-t h i r t y
o'clock, and the reception which
followed was in the banquet
room of the Medford hotel.
The bride's wedding gown
was of satin fashioned with
three-tiered net skirt and over
skirt of satin trimmed with lace
and ending in a train. Her veil
was finger-tip length and she
carried a white prayer book
with white orchid and flowered
streamers.
Mrs. Darrell Davis, sister of
the bride, was matron-of-honor.
Mrs. Davis wore a frock of aqua
marine nylon marquisette, bal
lerina style, with picture hat to
match and her flowers were
matching Ester Reed daisies.
Miss Hermina Fillaus and Miss
Claire Delorie, sister of the
bride, were bridesmaids.
Their ballerina frocks were of
lavender worn with picture hats
and both carried bouquets of
tinted daisies.
Darrell Davis escorted his sister-in-law
to the altar and also
acted as best man for the bride
groom. Barton LaFon and Jim
Dutcher, brother of the bride
groom from Klamath Falls, seat
guest book. About 125 guests at
tended. For the reception, Mrs. Wil
liam Luman cut the wedding
cake and Mrs. Ed Davis served.
Mrs. David Legg and Mrs. Rus
sell Budreau poured and Mrs.
Barton LaFon took charge of the
guest book.
Out-of-town guests Included
the bridegroom's parents and his
grandmother, Mrs. Hannah Hick-
son, Klamath Falls.
The bride, who attended
Prince of Wales college, Prince
Edward island, is a secretary for
the Medford corporation. Mr.
Dutcher, who attended Visalia
college and the University of
California, is on the engineering
staff of California Oregon Pow
er company.
The newlyweds are traveling
to the east coast and the mari
time provinces of Canada for
their honeymoon and will return
in September.

Grove Gardeners
Hold Installation
Oak Grove's Garden club in
stalled officers to serve for the
coming year at the regular meet
ing Tuesday, June 17, at the
Oak Grove schoolhouse.
The new president, Mrs. Clair
Shores will be assisted by U. T.
Wilson, vice-president; Mrs. Carl
Norris, secretary; and Roscoe
Hopfer, treasurer.
They were installed by Mrs.
R. T. Nichol, Siskiyou district
slide chairman. After the cere
monies, refreshments were serv-
ed by Mrs. William Rose, Mrs.
B. E. Ford, and Mr. and Mrs.
Lyle Thurman.
The club will hold the annual
picnic July 15 at Tou Velle park.

Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Swanson,

cently announced the engage
ment of their daughter, Barbara
Lee, to Jim Cyphert, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Cyphert, 727 B
street, Springfield, Ore.
Miss Swanson was a member
of the 1952 graduating class at
Medford Senior high school, and
Mr. Cyphert will be a senior
next fall at Southern Oregon
college.
The wedding if planned for
late summer.
Miss Jean Heath
To Become Bride
Of Charles Hinkle
At a recent luncheon given
In Stockton, Calif., for sorority
sisters, Miss Jean Heath an
nounced her engagement to
Charles E. Hinkle, son of Mrs.
T. D. Hinkle, 403 North Holly
street, Medford.
The future bride, a daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Heath,
Long Beach, Calif., was gradu
ated this month from College of
the Pacific, Stockton, having
majored in radio. Her sorority
is Mu Zeta Rho.
Her fiance attended Southern
Oregon college in Ashland for
two years and then was recalled
to active duty in the Navy. Up
on release, he enrolled at Col
lege of the Pacific where he is a
radio and drama major.
The couple will wed in Sep
tember and live in Stockton
while Mr. Hinkle completes his
education.

To Leave

by plane Wednesday for a three
weeks visit in North Dakota and
Wisconsin. He will join his wife,
who has been in the east for two
weeks.

Metasequoia Tree
To Be Dedicated
In Service Tuesday
A rare three-year-old metase
quoia tree from China will be
dedicated by its donor, retired
Forester John Gribble, 139 Ken
wood avenue, in a ceremony at
the northeast corner of Haw
thorne park at a special meeting '
of Medford Garden club, at 1:30
p.m., Tuesday, June 24.
The tree will be dedicated in
memory of Mrs. Sarah Whitman
Andrus, member of a pioneer
Jacksonville family. Mrs. R. T. !
Nichol, former president of the
garden club, is a daughter of
Mrs. Andrus.
After the dedication, installa
tion of garden club officers for
the forthcoming year will be
