nett Ave., from Crater Lake Ave. to
the West end of the present dedicated
Street In the City of Medford. Ore
gon, and for the assessment of the
cost hereof on adjacent property;
providing for a meeting of the Coun
cil to consider protests against said
Improvement and providing for the
serving of the owners of adjneent
property with notice thereof by the
Recorder.
THE CITY OF MRDPORO DOTH
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That It is the intention
of the Council to cause to be con
structed concrete curbs and gutters
and concrete driveways and nsphnl
tic concrete pavement on Bennett
Ave. from Crater Lake Ave. to the
West end of the present dedicated
Street In accordance with the plans
and specifications on file In the of
fice of the City Superintendent, at
the City Hall. Medford, Oregon, to
which plans and specifications refer
ence is hereby made for details and
eMImnted costs thereof, and to assess
upon each lot, or pari thereof, adja
cent to and benefited by such Im
provement Its proportionate share of
the cost of said improvement as pro
vided by the Charter or the City of
Medford.
Section 2. The Council will meet
In the Council Chambers at the City
Hall on the 1st day of July, 1H52. at
7 30 P.M.. at which time and place
the owners of said adjacent property

tions of calcium is the regula
tion or, say, the steadying of the
nerves. This action or effect of
calcium, whether one takes it in
such food as milk, cheese, egg
yolk, beans, peas, greens, nuts
and peanuts, or with vitamin D

tonic rather than sedative.
I hesitate to tell you ah, ah,
Brady, watch your language!
to describe the physiological
functions of calcium in these
brief chats, lest many so-and-so's
run away with the wrong idea
that I suggest calcium in place
of ordinary dope such as aspirin,
acctanilid (disguised, of course)
or this or that barbiturate. From
the letters that readers write
about calcium it is abundantly
evident that the majority of
them "try" calcium, if at all,
strictly as a medicine, and for
not more than a week or two at
that. When- they fail to exper
ience what iie professional testi
monial writers call "amazing"
results from this "trial," they
toss the whole thing out the
window and look for a more
promising remedy.
The calcium you store this
month and next month will
steady or tone your nerves next
autumn. So I advise everybody
to consume not less than 1V4
pints (three glassfuls) of milk
the best source of calcium
daily in vacation time, at least,
for the steadying, stabilizing ef
fect it will have on his or her
"nerves" upon returning t o
school or work in the fall.

an adequate daily ration of cal
cium by consuming liberal help
ings of cheese, any kind of
cheese: eggs, raw or cooked as
one prefers: greens cooked but
not overcooked and the cooking
water consumed, not thrown
away; beans, peas, nuts and pea
nuts. These are next to milk,
the chief items in a high calcium
diet.
Alternatively, if for any rea
son these items and such raw
vegetables or leafy vegetables as
slaw, tomatoes, celery and other
"rabbit feed" are not available
or acceptable, then one may still
get an adequate daily ration of
calcium, along with the vitamin
D which is essential for absorp
tion and utilization of calcium,
by supplementing the ordinary
diet with capsules or wafers of
calcium and D. Please remember
that calcium and D taken to sup
plement a calcium-poor diet is
NOT medicine and its effects
can hardly become manifest un
til it has been taken faithfully
every day for at least two or
three months.
