BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES This huge waterspout gathers

Economic Studies
Of Irrigation Aid
To Production Set
An economic study of the
Sams Valley-Beagla soil conser
vation district, to show the com
parative potential productive ca
pacity of the district with and
without irrigation, has been au
thorized by the district's direc
tors, according to W. B. Tucker,
secretary of the board.
The study will concern 12,400
acres classified by the Bureau of
Reclamation as farm plow land;
and possible supplemental wa
ter storage sources besides the
Rogue river, which is too low af
ter July 1 fdr complete irriga
tion, according to Tucker.
OKi Enlargement
The board, which met Monday
evening in the courthouse, has
also approved enlargement of
the district to include the Evans
Valley area, bounded on the
west by Josephine county, on
the north by Douglas county, on
the south by Rogue river, and on
tjie east by Trail creek, the sec
1 retary added. ,
f ) He explained that the soil con
' servation committee of Oregon
" will decide when a referendum
election will be held. Any per
son owning, or having contract
to purchase 10 or more acres in
the proposed' area is eligible to
vote. Tentative polling places
are at Wimer, Rogue River
and Shady Cove.
Officers of the board of direc
tors of the district includes
George Loftin, chairman; Bur
dette Dodge, vice-chairman;
Earl Day, treasurer; Lester E.
James and Frank A. Straus, su
pervisors, and Tucker, secretary.
Scientists observe that glac
iers are retreating all over the
world. In parts of Alaska, rock
strewn valleys today lie bare
at points where early in this
century glacier ice stood hun
dreds of feet thick.

This, he speculated, would
eliminate such sultry beauties as
Ava Gardner, Cyd Charisse, Rita
Hayworth and Lauren Bacall.
Many other movie stars curves
come from courtesy padding and
wires.
He thinks the only cinema
cuties who could work as nude
models are Sally Forrest, Peggy
Cummins, baby-faced French
star Cecile Aubrey, Mona Free
man, June Haver, Doris Day,
Terry Moore, Piper Laurie and
Jane Powell,
"Wanda Hendrix and Janice
Rule have innocent faces and
beautiful bodies, too," he add
ed. "They'd make fortunes a!
nude models. It's the Shirley
Temple type I look for the
look of inexperience.
Bleached Blondes No Good
"I can't even use blondes
with bleached hair. They look
like the show girl type."
Miss Monroe was a Willinger
model, with her clothes on. He
sold 82 photographs of her -for
magazine covers, ads and bur
boards.
"She's not a raving beauty and
has short legs, but she's the best
model I ever had," he said
"She had that innocent face. But
now her studio make-up depart
ment seems to have changed
that.
The fuss over the famed Mon
roe calendar, he went on, was
"infantile." .He knows three oth
er top actresses who posed for
nude calendars in their model
Ing days.
Not Much Demand
Furthermore, he said, there
Isn't much demand from calen
dar companies for nude photos,
anyway.
"That's only about five per
cent of my work," he said,
"There's much more demand for
babies, puppies and landscapes."
But he's still anxious to find
models who can pose nude at his
swank Sunset Strip salon.
"Nude models needn't worry
about the photographer," he
grinned. "When I spot a girl who
looks boring, I know she'll make
a good model. But it's strictly
business. They're the opposite of
the type I like personally.
