Set for Saturday, June 21, Is
the wedding of Miss Margaret
Ruth McCormick to Ray Donald
Bostwick. The bride-to-be is a
daughter of .Mr. and Mrs. L. A.
McCormick, 2002 Stage Road
south, and Mr. Bostwick is a
son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bost
wick, 503 Haven street.
The rites will be at Sacred
Heart Catholic church at two
o'clock in the afternoon, and the
reception following will be at
Rogue Valley Country club.
Miss McCormick was gradu
ated from St. Mary's academy
and has been a student at the
University of Oregon this past
year. Mr. Bostwick is stationed
at San Diego with the air arm
of the United States navy.
Bi-County Union
To Hold Institute
In Grants Pass
A bi-county institute of Jose
phine and Jackson county Wom
an's Christian Temperance un
ion will be held Friday, June
20 at 11 a.m. in Grants Pass at
the WCTU hall, officers of the
Medford union announced last
week. Those who are attending
and can transport others to the
meeting are asked to call Mrs.
Guy Cox at telephone 2-4198.
During a meeting of the Med-
ford union Thursday afternoon
Mrs. Robert Taylor presented the
American flag, the Christian flag
and the Temperance flag. Mem
bers gave their pledges to each
of the flags and Mrs. Taylor re
cited a poem pertaining to the
' American flag. The ceremony
was in observance of Flag day.
Devotionals were given by
Mrs. Robert Cox. A flower day
program was presented by Mrs.
Edna Purcell, and a tribute was
given in memory of Mrs. Ella
Boole, World WCTU past presi
dent. Others also remembered
in tribute were Mrs. Ida B. Wise
Smith, a past national president,
and Mrs. Rose Berry, who was
a member of the Medford group;
Mitchell Russell and Sherman
L. Divine.
A candlelighting ceremony and
floral decorations were planned
by Mrs. Edna Purcell and Mrs
Eva Low. Mrs. Donn Piatt sang.
A greeting was read from Mrs.
Fred Tooze Jr., state president,
now in Alaska. She also is na
tional recording secretary. She
Is making plans for a world con
vention which will be held at
Vancouver, B. C. in August.
Mrs. G. O. Sanden read an
excerpt from the Union Signal,
the group's official national pub
lication. Mrs. Cox, president, presided
for the business meeting.

east. Mrs. Simcox visited rela

daughter, Dorothy, to Philip M.
Huntley, son of Mrs. Ruth Hunt
ley, 519 Mayette street.
Miss Hawkins was graduated
in 1949 from Medford senior
high school and later attended
Southern Oregon college.
Her fiance is a graduate of
Huntley high school at Worden,
Mont. He attended Eastern Mon
tana College of Education and
now is employed by the Medford
Ice and Storage company.
The wedding is set for Octo
ber. Students Graduate
From Mills College
Miss Phyllis Merrick was
graduated from Mills college,
Oakland, Calif., when the col
lege held the annual commence
ment ceremonies June 8. Miss
Merrick Is a daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. E. P. Merrick, 1432 East
Main street, and the Merricks
were In Oakland for the event.
Miss Merrick took a degree in
botany, and plans to do research
in that field.
Also in the class was Miss
Sonja Schneider, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Brittan,
Table Rock estates, who also
were in, Oakland for the com
mencement. Miss Schneider, who
took her degree in foreign lan
guage, plans to spend the sum
mer here, and Miss Merrick also
will visit here for several weeks.
Mrs. Lillian Mollar Gilbreth,
efficiency expert, gave the com
mencement address and was
given an honorary degree. Mrs.
Gilbreth's family is that on
which the story, "Cheaper by the
Dozen" was based.
This was the 100th anniver
sary class of the college.
Following commencement, the
Merricks motored to Carmel and
other California resorts for "a
vacation.

Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Stanford,

cently announced the engage
ment of their daughter, Janice
Maxine, to Dale F. Ward, son of
J. F. Ward, route 1, box 444,
Central Point, and the late Mrs.
Ward.
Mr. Ward was graduated from
Medford Senior High school
with the class of 1952 and Miss
Stanford is a member of the class
of 1953 at the same school. They
both play with the Eve Prentice
Accordion band. He is a member
of Medford chapter, Order of
DeMolay and is employed at the
Continental Pacific Trailways
depot in Medford.
Mr. Ward plans to attend col
lege in Iowa next fall, and the
wedding is planned for July,
1953.

Formed Recently
For Eagle Point
Eagle Point A Lady Lions
club was organized in Eagle
Point during a meeting held re
cently in the Brooks cafe. Eigh
teen women attended and a
dinner was served preceding the
meeting.
The first president of the new
club and other officers were
elected at the organizatipnal
meeting.
Mrs. Elvin Walgamott Is the
new president and Mrs. Don
Geren is the vice-president. Mrs.
Jake Olsen was elected secre
tary; Mrs. Willard Cave, treas
urer, and Mrs. Floyd Bubb, lion
trainer.
Meetings will be held on the
second Monday of every month.

workshop for July, August and
September, the first meeting to
be held at the home of Mrs. M.
B. Bonney July 16. Mrs. Bonney
has studied lampshade construc
tion in adult education classes
at Grants Pass.
Howards Return
From Vacation Trip
Dr. and Mrs. W. W. Howard
returned last week from a two
month vacation trip, having left
here April 8 by plane to visit
relatives In Iowa and Missouri.
In Cincinnati, O., they were met
by Dr. and Mrs. S. G. Biddle
of Los Angeles. From there they
went by boat, "The Delta
Queen," to New Orleans, stop
ping enroute to take tours and
side trips to points of Interest.
After leaving New Orleans
they went by car down the Gulf
of Mexico to Key West, then up
the east coast of Florida to Jack
sonville. Later the travelers
drove through southern states,
stopping to visit the Carlsbad ca
verns, the Grand canyon and
then to Los Angeles where they
left for Medford by plane.

Society of Artists Plans
Greenwich Village Show
A Greenwich Village art show,
the first to be sponsored by the
Southern Oregon Society of Ar
tists, is planned for July 13 in
the old city park on West Main
street. Hours of the show will be
from 1 to S p.m. and everyone
is invited.
All members of the society
will participate and the park
will be full of artists and their
work. Each artist will have his
own . show and some will be
painting, with other pieces of
their work displayed clothesline
fashion. Others will nse park
benches for their displays. Pic
tures will be framed and un
earned. Portland, San Francisco, Los
Angeles and many other cities
have Greenwich Village art
shows during July and the show
here will be similar.
Plans for the show were made by
the group during a meeting Wed
nesday evening.

Times. Artists of pictures select
