ANOTHER SATISFIED
ALBERS CUSTOMER
Is Les Gilman, owner of the Gil
man's Cream-Rich Dairy Products,
Medford. Les Is a staunch feeder
of Milk Flo Paketts for his dairy
string and he gets the results. Les
also starts his calves on Calf Manna
and follows with Albers Crowd and
his calves and heifers are beauties
and they develop into real. cows.
Of course the feed doesn't have all
to do with it, as Les has good
stock and his careful management
shows up In his whole herd. Les
has the agency for the Miller-Mill
for baled hay chopping, so if any
of you ranches are in the market
for a chopper, it would be a good
idea to see Les before you buy.
Don't forget folks that Les dis
tributes mighty good milk, too.
"JANEY"
One of Paul Stevenson's cows
was one of the top winners for the
month of May, in the county. She
produced 1,457 lbs. ,of milk and
99.1 lbs of butterfat. Congratula
tions Paul on a mighty fine job. Of
course I have to mention that Paul
is also one of our Milk Flo Paketts
feeders.

grounds ball park here. Time of
the opener is 1:30 p.m.
While Medford hasn't been
able to get any previous test,
Klamath Falls has played four
games, splitting with Albany
and losing twice to Eugene. The

were'forfeited to Medford when
the Lakeview team was unable
to come here.
Landers Boys Gone
This week the Medfordites
will be without the services of
Ned nnd Ted Landers, prep
baseballers, who are on a vaca
tion trip to Texas. Gordon Car
rigan, a Central Point high ath
lete, is expected to take over
Ted Landers' third base chores
Ned Landers is a pitcher but the
Legion squad seems fairly well
fixed in that department.
Coach Al Perkins has four
hurlers to choose among for the
two games. They are Ken Piland,
Blake Maddox, Jim Kelly and
Kay Kelley. Jim Kelly is a St
Mary's high tosser while Kay
Kelley is a central Pointer.
Dick Wooton is probable Med
ford catcher on Sunday. Other
possible starters are Terry Mad
dox, first base; Max Llndley or
Jack Antonson at second, with
one going to the outfield; Jerry
Perkins or Curt Holzgang at
shortstop, with one of the two
in the outfield, and Tom Rodgers
in the other outfield spot.

Studs Travel
To Bandon
This Week
The Medford Cheney Studs
fifth place team in the South
western Oregon Baseball league,
will play Bandon, fourth place
team, In a two-game series this
week-end. The hassles Saturday
and Sunday will be at Bandon.
Success of the Medford club
will depend considerably on
how effectively the Millers have
strengthened their pitching.
Lack of hurling power was a
big reason why the Bandon crew
dropped from second to fourth
by losing two games last week
end to Coquille.
Bandon reportedly has secur
ed the services of Dr. Frank
Dierrick, standout s e m i-pro
chucker from Oregon City. Med
ford will rely on Paul Gehrman
and Derald Wooton.
The Studs, by winning twice,
could rise into third spot this
week-end, depending on for
tunes of other league members.
Brookings will play at Drain and
Roseburg at Coos Bay-North
Bend while Coquille gets a bye.
Roseburg, Coos Bay and Drain
are now tied for the league
leadership.
For Medford to rise as high as
third position, either Roseburg
or its bay area rival will have to
pull a clean sweep. Drain is a big
favorite over winless cellarite
Brookings. But the Studs will
have to help themselves as well
as hope for help elsewhere.
Roseburg reportedly is bol
stering its pitching staff. There
Manager Earl Sargent has ac
quired Hal Saltzman of Portland
Beaver fame and Just out of the
military service and Stan Aune,
University of Oregon pitcher.
Saltzman earlier was reported
signed by Coos Bay. He was re
leased because of the large size
of the mound staff of the coast
team. The tosser recently was
quoted as saying he did not plan
to play ball for a while but ap
parently was referring to the
professional variety. He will
make his debut with the Chiefs
on June 28 and 28.
The Medford Studs will play
their next game in Medford on
Wednesday, June 18, against
Dunsmuir, Calif. They will face
Weed here on the following Fri
day. Two games with barnstorm
ing teams were arranged for the
Studs this week. They oppose tne
House of David on July 14 and
the Havana Cabanas on July 18.
The Cheney crew battles the
Harlem Globetrotters on Aug
ust 5.

Win Streak
San Francisco (U.R) Slight
ly arrears with spring cleaning
chores, the Pacific Coast league's
high-priced lackeys appeared
ready Friday to rearrange their
furnishings.
The attic and the basement
were pin-pointed as targets of
attack.
San Diego, kept atop the PCL
by Frank O'Doul, may be shunt
ed to another room, in favor of
the rising stars from Hollywood,
bossed by Fred Haney. And, at
the extreme end of the social
ladder, San Francisco seems ripe
to nestle into the familiar cellar,
replacing Sacramento.
lOlh Straight
The Seals, who wear an
eighth-place trademark from
the 1951 season, lost their 10th
straight Thursday night to Hol
lywood, 2-1. And San Diego
dropped a 6-5 decision to Sacra
mento in 15 long innings.
Portland, backed by Joe Bro
via's homer and Fred Sanford's
six-hitter, snapped Seattle's win
streak at 11, 2-1, and Los An
geles trimmed Oakland, 5-0, on
six-hit pitching by Walt Dublel
and a two-tally homer by Leon
Brinkopf. The loss was Oak
land's first in eight games.
The Hollywood win and San
Diego loss combined to trim the
Pads' lead to one game and to
leave seventh-place San Fran
cisco just one contest out of the
basement.

Swede Halbrook
To Attend OSC
Portland (U.R) Wade
(Swede) Halbrook, the seven-foot-tall
pride of the Lincoln
high school basketball team in
Portland, said Friday he will at
tend Oregon State college next
fall.
Halbrook has boc- an all-state
star twice and holds many high
school scoring records. He said
his decision to attend the Cor
vallis school was based on his
admiration for Slats Gill, OSC
coach.
"I like) Oregon State and Cor
vallls and I very much want to
play basketball for Slats Gill,"
the towering athlete said.
The Lincoln center last season
piled up 1035 points in leading
his school to the state basketball
championship and had been
sought after by schools all over
the nation. His mother said "it
was Wade's own idea to attend
an Oregon school."

Golf Open
Dallas. Tex. (U.R) Al
Brosch, freckles gleaming in the
glare of a bright Texas sun, set
out to whip a golfing jinx Fri
day of all days Friday the
13th.
When the last salvos of the
opening round of the 52nd U. S,
Open golf championship were
fired amid the twilight shadows
Thursday, the man in front of
the field was Brosch a 40-vear
old veteran pro from Garden
City, N. Y.
The bespectacled one-time
Long Island caddy whipped the
choice field by a stroke, beat par
by two strokes and had been the
only man in the 162-player field
to birdie difficult Northwood
Club s most stubborn hole "Pe
can Narrows," the 448-yard, par
sixtn.
His 35-3368 round Disced
him a stroke in front of defend
ing champion Ben Hogan and
two strokes ahead of another
veteran threesome composed of
Dick Metz, Maple City, Kan.;
Sam Snead, White Sulphur
Springs. W. Va.; and Horton
Smith, Detroit.
Brosch seems a cinch to be
among the low 50 and ties who
will survive after Friday's 18-
hole round for the big 36-hole
stretch drive Saturday. Opening
round scores indicate a 149 or
150 will make that grade.-
Brosch, Hogan, Metz, Smith
and Snead were the only ones
able to crack or match North-
wood s par 35-35 70.

Fishing Said Fair
Portland (U.R) Fair catch
es of trout are being made in
Cascade and central coastal
lakes but elsewhere fishing is
spotty within a poor- to- fair
range, the Oregon State Fish
commission said Friday in its
weekly fishing bulletin.
Recent rains raised many
streams, making them muddy
and reducing possibilities for
anglers. The area - by - area
fishing report included:
Southwest Central coast
lakes fair for trout on May flies;
central coast streams low and
some good catches being made;
southern coast streams and lakes
poor; lower Rogue poor for sal
mon and fair for trout; North
Umpqua good for trout; South
Umpqua good above Milo.
