The Rev. G. G. Mahy of the
Philippine Islands will speak
at the 7:30 p. m. service Sun
day at the First Presbyterian
church. His wife, Helen Mahy,
will speak to the senior high
Weslminster fellowship at 6:30

Mr. Mahy and Dr. D. K. West,
pastor of the Medford church,
were In Princeton seminary to
gether and worked In Shantung
province In China until 1949.
Both were held by Communists
for five days in 1948 in an in
terior village of the province.

The couple will sail for Man
ila late this month after Mrs.
Mahy completes a course in ra
dio broadcasting in San Fran
cisco. She has been broadcasting
a program from Silliman un
iversity for some time. The
Mnhy's are accompanied here by
their children, Carol, a student
at Wilson college, and Kenneth
and Tressa, who will return to
the Philippines with them. An
other son, Don, is attending Da
vidson college.
The public is invited to hear
the Mahys.

at the 11 a. m. service on Sun

church at the 11 o'glock worship
service . tills Sunday morning.
The Rev. L. H. Steinhoff, presi
dent of the Pacific synod of the
United Lutheran church of
America, will perform the in
stallation rites.
Pastor Hillerman came to
Medford after 10',4 years as pas
tor of the Resurrection Lutheran
church In Juneau, Alaska, His
family includes his wife and
three children. He succeeds the
Rev. O. W. Ebright, now super
intendent of the California Syn
od's Home for the Aged In Al
hambra. Calif., as pastor of the
Medford church.
Mr. Hillerman is the son of
the late Dr. George H. Hiller
man, who was superintendent of
missions at the time the Medford
Zion Lutheran church was erect
ing its present building, and who
was known in Medford.
The church is located at the
coiner of Fourth street and Oak
dale avenue. Anyone interested
is Invited to attend the installa
tion service.

To Attend Conference
Forty-three high school age
young people of First Presbyter
ian church here will go by char
tered bus to Mt. Hermon in Cal
ifornia for a one-week confer
ence. The bus will leave Sunday
night and the conference begins
on Monday. Sunday departure
from Medford is planned in or
der to provide a sightseeing trip
In San Francisco.
Art Sueltz, assistant minister
and director of youth of the
church here, and Mrs. Sueltz,
will accompany the group. Miss
Dorothy Henderson, Miss Mar
jorie Bridges and Miss Pricilla
West are adult advisors.
Last year at the conference
the Medford church had t h e
largest group from the farthest
distance. Reports Indicate the
group will gain the honor again.

To Attend Session;
Charter Received
Central Point Two mem
bers of Central Point chapter of
Theta Rho will attend the first
state assembly of the order
which will be held in Salem
June 20 and 21. The delegates
will be Miss Myrtle McKiddie,
president, and Miss Sally Mon
gold, vice-president.
The Central Point chapter,
instituted May 3, will hold the
first initiation July 3. The group
received -its charter at the last
meeting, held In the IOOF hall,
with Miss McKiddie accepting
the document in behalf of the
organization. .
Refreshments were served by
the Misses Irene Rock, Judy Van
Horn and Darlene Williams.
Phoenix Society Holds
Annual Birthday Tea
Phoenix Ladies' Aid society
of Phoenix Presbyterian church
held the annual birthday tea at
the church Wednesday after
noon. The program included read
ings by Mrs. Ernest Wright and
piano solos by Mrs. Lola Curtis
Bates, who played her own com
positions. A guessing game and
an article read by Mrs. Emma
Keith completed the program,
which had been arranged, by
Mrs. Weith and Mrs. E. J. Clark.
Tables were designated by the
months of the year, and guests
were seated at the table of their
birthday month. Tables were
centered with minature bou
quets of flowers.
The refreshment committee
was composed of Mrs. L. O. Cas
ter, Mrs. W. M. Caldwell, Mrs.
J. W. Watkins and Mrs. Lillian

meeting of the local and Klam
ath Falls chapters of NSA. Also

ern Oregon college, Ashland.
Miss Nora Hansen, Seattle, inter-chapter
council chairman for
region one, talked on the history
of NSA, its aims and purposes
and explained the certified pro
fessional secretary program. Pro
fessor Miller also spoke, explain
ing the study program he has
set up for the Klamath Falls
chapter which he' will instruct
at the high school in Klamath
Falls in August.
Miss Hansen also installed the
new officers of the Klamath
Falls chapter.
Mrs. Kathryn Thomas, presi
dent of Rogue River chapter, an
nounced that the chapter is con
ferring an honorary membership
on Mr. Miller. An invitation was
extended to the Klamath Falls
chapter to attend the next
monthly meeting of Rogue River
chapter July 10.

storekeepers. In fact he and Mrs.
Scarseth, who helps him out oc
casionally, kept such a store
away up in the northeast corner
of Montana in the town of Four
Buttes. They also ran the post
office there for 19 years.
The . result is obvious. Uncle
Sam gains with not only the ex
pected efficiency in moving the
mail but a brand of salesman
ship that boosts the postal busi
ness in a unique manner. Veter
ans write letters and mail them
just to pay a visit to the post
office and engage in repartee
with Mr. Scarseth.
He was acting PM for quite
a while, the appointment being
made official Feb. 11, 1952. He
and Mrs. Scarseth live at the
station. Contact with' Medford
is made through scheduled mail
truck service provided by the
VA, but if the mail is important
after hours, they drive to town
to make the delivery -themselves.
He never fails to put in a good
word for air mail.
Camp White became a post
office July 1, 1949. Before that,
mail was delivered and handled

office. Oak Grove Troop 44 of the
Girl Scouts was escorted through
the Arts and Crafts and Hobby

six girls, half the number In the

the leather, wood, basket and
gem work being done. Mrs. Van
der Steen, troop leader, brought
the girls, who presented lap
robes made In their work proj
ect. The scouts in the party inclu

rey, present head of arts and
crafts, will also function as act
ing director of volunteers. Ty'
headquarters are established di
rectly across from the recreation
office.
He will work 'closely with
Kahn and also with the recrea
tion. To make room for Teorey
to operate, the chief of special
services has moved to the admin
istration building. -
