Waller.
Many people in this country
are unable to prove where they
were born because no records
were kept In the place of their
birth. Consequently they have no
birth certificates. However, I
am not one of them. Have just
been glancing over my birth cer
tificate, .which proclaims that I
was born at S21 East 12th Street,
New York City. That my father
was 40 and my mother 32 at the
time. Also that my mother was
born in New York City and my
father in London, England. It
gives my father's occupation as
shipping clerk and states that I
was the fourth child.
Says He.
"So the Scots protested
against the appearance in Glas
gow of the Girls' Bagpipe Band
from the University of Iowa,"
writes a Chicagoan named
Casey. "What a display of un
called for Irritation. The Scotch
male bagpipers were probably
just jealous because the girls
looked more beautiful than they
did in kilts."
Asking.
Queries from clients. Q From
what stage play is the classic
line: "What's all the shootin'
for?" I claim "Seven Keys to
Baldpate." A. You lose. It is
from George M. Cohan's play
"The Tavern." Q Have you in
your Horses Sc Women files the
measurements of the Duchess of
Windsor? A Regret our records
do not include the measure
ments of the lady you mention.
All I know is that she is five
foot three and one-half inches.
Incidentally, that is also the
height of her husband. Q Am
collecting popular songs with
quaint titles, such as "The Wind
That Blew the Herring Up," "St.
James Infirmary Blues," "Sam,
You Made the Pants Too Long,"
"I Never Liked O'Regan or His
Mother," etc. Can you suggest
some others? A How about that
ditty of yesteryear, titled "Blitz
kreig Baby, Youre My Itsy Bitsy
Bombshell of Love"?
Briefly.
Copco Undecided
On Tax Write-Offs
California Oregon Power com
pany officials said today that the
company a directors have not
yet decided whether it will take
advantage of rapid tax amortiza
tion allowances recently granted
by the Defense Electric Power
administration.
It was announced In Washing
D.C., yesterday that total of
$38,200,000 in power plant and
transmission line construction
has been approved for tax write
off within five years, rather than
the normal depreciation period
of 25 years. The purpose of tax
write-offs, it was explained, is to
encourage expansion or produc
tion of new plants.
The power facilities covered
by the Copco certificate include
those at Soda Springs, Fish
Creek, Clearwater Nos. 1 and 2,
Lemolo Nos. 1 and 2, and Cres
cent City, according to the Unit
ed Press.
Copco officials explained that
the situation regarding the tax
amortization procedure, as gov
erned by the Public Utilities
commissions of Oregon and Cal
ifornia, has not been cleared by
policies adopted by the two bod
ies ,and that a decision on
whether or not the write-off will
be used deppnds on a clarifica
tion by the PUCs.

a couple of acquaintances known

"Rowdy Kate." However, my
favorite feminine old West nick
name is still "Two Ace Dora."
