Slipped Through Block
The gunman slipped right
through it ad drove almost to
the Chicago city limits to make
one of his attacks.
His markmanship was as spot

five weeks when he peppered a

Phoenix Recorder
Take Leave
Starting July 1st
Phoenix Mrs. Curt Fisher,
city recorder, is taking a three
month's leave of absence begin
ning July 1. She has been city
recorder for almost four years.
Someone will be appointed to
fill the vacancy, Mrs. Fisher
said Friday, and she- has riot
made definite plans after her
leave of absence is over. The
position is up for election next
November.
At the June 2 council meet
ing, Mrs. Elva Briscoe took the
oath of office for appointment
to the council position held by
her late husband Earl Briscoe.
The council also received noti

department that the contract has
been let for the hard surfacing

to the northwest city limits,
distance of .27 mile..
Totals $15,718
The contract totals $15,716.56,
of which the state will pay $15,-
000 and the city the rest. The
money from the state comes
from a special allocation fund,
according to Mrs. Fisher, which
is set aside for small cities each
year. The fund totals $250,000
and is spent for street projects
"within cities receiving exces
sive wear through sudden in
creases in population in the area
or unusual industrial traffic.
She said the top limit for each
project was $15,000. . ,
In other businesses, tjie coun

for re-surfacing Third street
from Highway 99 to Rose street
for $3,110. The sufacing will be
paid for out of the state gas tax
fund and will be started immedi
ately. PlUto is about 3,660,000,000
miles from the sun.

particularly in unskilled lines.
Payments to insured em
