FIRE DRILL COMPETITION A member of a three-man
rural fire drill competition team, left above, sprints to make up
time. The competitive drills, won by the Boring team, were
held Tuesday at Grape street and Melrose avenue as a part of
the state fire fighters convention which ends today. Among the
several hundred spectators, a portion of whom are shown here,
was F.ugene Amann, Medford s first paid fire chief, who had
ringside seat in the dark car at the top, center of the picture.

the truck for each team.
A demonstration of fire fight
ing equipment was conducted by
dealers during the afternoon.
"Skill" Demonstrated
Hit of the afternoon for most
of the crowd was a demonstra
tion of fire fighting "skill" by
the Kc. Keel Rurl Fyr Depart
ment's "long red underwear bri
gade." Using a fire truck of an
cient, but unidentifiable vintage,
the Ko Keel crew used water
pistols, hot water bottles, impro
vised pumps and buckets to wet
down each other, the crowd and,
on occasion, the "fire."
Members cf the Oregon State
Fire Chiefs association and the
Oregon Rural Fire Protection
Districts association, which are
convening jointly here, attended
a banquet last night at the Med
ford Elks club. Dr. Elmo N. Ste
venson, president of Southern
Oregon college, was principal
speaker, and R. B. Taylor, Sa
lem, state insurance commission
er, acted as master of ceremo
nies.
