youths are tentatively sched
uled to compete Saturday in the
state AAU track and field meet
at Portland.
The boys will enter the meet
unattached and will vie on an in
dividual basis with no team
scores being kept. Bob Newland,
Medford high coach, will not go
to Portlad with them.
Entering the senior high di
vision from Medford will be Don
Spinas in the hurdles ad jave
lin; Jack Moad in the shot put
and discus, and Ed Bingham in
the high jump and javelin.

Jack Brophy In the discus; Norm
Chapman in the discus and jave

On June 10
The Southern Oregon district
qualifying action for the state
Junior Chamber of Commerce
junior golf tournament will be
held on Tuesday, June 10, with
tee-off time set for 8:30 a.m. at
Rogue Valley Country club.
Six youths will qualify for the
state meet which will be June
23 and 24 at Bend. At the Bend
tournament the four low youths
will qualify for the national jun
ior tournament which will be
held this year at Eugene, Ore.
Date of the national event is Au
gust 11 throught 16.
At Bend, a fifth low boy will
qualify as an alternate.
Age Limitation
To be eligible for this Junior
Chamber of Commerce compe
tition, a boy must not have
reached his 18th birthday before
August IS.
The district elimination here
will be one of five throughout
the state. A practice round for
out-of-town golfers Is set for
June 9 here.
Last year Phil Getchell of the
Rogue Valley club was a partici
pant in the national tournament
at Durham, N.C.
605 Fish Caught
At Rogue Mouth
Fishing was fair at the mouth
of Rogue river during the past
week, according to a letter to
the Mail Tribune from Macks'
Fishing resort at Wedderburn.
A total of 605 fish were
caught, it was said. Most boats
got salmon and a few caught
their limits.
A. N. McLennan of the resort
said that fishing should improve
as the tide is favorable for a run
of salmon to enter the Rogue.
GOLF DAY DECLARED
Washington (U.R). The
Senate took time out from de
bating the $6,900,000,00 foreign
aid bill Tuesday to designate
Saturday as "National Golf
Day." A series of golf tourna
ments will be held Saturday to
benefit the United Services or
ganization USO and the Na
tional Golf fund.
