Korean Police Action
Now Being Discussed
In Terms of Years
By LYLE C. WILSON
Washington (U.R) The men
who should know most about
it are talking of the Korean po
lice action in terms of years,
three years, maybe. It could be
more.
They acknowledge that the
United States and the United
Nations have very little and the
Communists have very great
control over the situation. So
long as it fits Communist plans
to continue the truce talks as a
propaganda device for the Krem
lin, the talks probably will con
tinue.
No Evidence Shown
As of today there is no evi
dence that the Communists de
sire honest negotiations and

' real truce. Nor is there any im
mediate evidence that the Com
munists want to resume all-out
combat.
About 40 per cent of the effec
tive ground force of the United
States is pinned down in Korea
plus large naval and air ele
ments. The financial cost is ter
rific and the loss of life irrepar
able. Our intelligence does not
know how great a strain the Ko
rean action may be on Chinese
and Russian facilities.
The standout fact upon which
prime emphasis is placed here is
that the Communists are in com
mand of the situation. As of now
they can have war or peace as
they desire, or continue truce
talk propaganda. Their refusal
to negotiate merely indicates
their present choice which is to
continue their present tactics for
months and years, so long as
Moscow writes the script that
way. Perhaps the Communists
have their eye on the weakest
spot in the defenses of the free
nations.
That epot is the fact that
many nations are involved on
the free side in Korea. The Unit
ed States carries nearly all of
the load. But there is a British
division in action there, and
there are smaller units from sev
eral others of the United Na
tions. Allied Fall-Out Seen
If frustration, expense, or
whatever caused even one of
these participating nations to'
pull out, great damage would
have been done the anti-Com
munist cause. The Kremlin may
believe some of the Allies will
fall out if the truce stall is con
tinued long enough.
Authorities have noted
buildup of Communist strength
in the Far East. Much progress
has been made since truce talks
began In converting Russian air
power to Jet propulsion. Per
haps the Communists simply are
building up for an all-out blow

Embark on College
Careers Next Fall
Corbeil, Ont. OI.R) Papa
Oliva Dionne said his famous
quintuplets at last will escape
his ever-watchful eye when they
go to college next fall.
"They've all decided they
want to go to college," Dionne
said. "They haven't made up
their minds which one yet, but
it definitely will not be a con
vent." Thus Dionne dispelled a ru
mor that one of the five Canad

18th Birthdays Wednesday.
- He said that his daughters
Emilie, Annette, Yvonne, Marie
and Cecile would have to start
making up their own minds
Wednesday, when they celebrate
their 18th birthday and reach
the age of consent.
The anniversary will have
double significance for the girls
and nine classmates will grad
uate from their private school
Wednesday and it will be closed
as soon as the exercise is con
cluded. Dionne said the birthday par
ty would be a family affair. He
said he would give each of the
girls a rhinestone necklace with
a bracelet and earrings to
match.
Dionne said the girls may do
their own choosing for hus
bands, "but the fact is, none of
them has any boy friends."

MUSTARD AND KETCHUP STAINS
Muster!! and ketchup present about the same problem in terms of
stain removal as the totalled "tannin-like" stains.
There art lust four things to remember about mustard and ketchup
stains hh will help you sate the garment from unsightly brown spots.
1. It the mustard or ketchup has been spilled on a washable
garment, out wit clear water. DO NOT USE SOAP. DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO PRESS UNTIL THE STAIN HAS BEEN COMPLETELY
REMOVED.
2. DO NOT, If at all possible, merely allow the stain to dry out
and then let the garment hang in the. closet for a long time. These
stains become developed with age, and then they're harder than ever
to get out. Sometimes they can't be removed at all, if the garment is
not sent to the cleaner for a long time after staining.
3. If the mustard or ketchup stain has occurred on a "dry clean
able" garment, DO NOTHING. ABOVE ALL, DO NOT RUB OR WIPE
IN ANY WAY. This only forces the stain into the fabric fibre and makes
it more difficult to remove.
4. ALWAYS TELL US ABOUT THE STAIN. We can then em
ploy special spotting and "spot-digesting" techniques prior to ordinary
cleaning. Unless it's an extra-ordinarily complex procedure, there is
ne crurje tor this eitra service. And you'll get your garment back in
better condition.
The main thing to remember about mustard and ketchup stains
is that it isn't the stains thsmselves that give so much trouble. It's
what happens to them afterwards.
So again, please DON'T RUB . . . DON'T USE A HOT IRON
... TELL US . . . and, If it's washable SPONGE OUT WITH CLEAR
WATER ONLY.
