Two. Scholarships
At Ashland Session
Miss Carol J. Robertson, Med
ford and Miss Charlene Lind-quist-
Grants Pass, were award
ed the two 1952 scholarships
given by Delta Kappa Gamma,
honorary teachers sorority, at a
meeting of the local chapter May
17. The group makes the awards
annually to young women who
plan to teach and who are con
sidered outstanding. Miss Robert
con and Miss Lindquist plan to
attend Southern Oregon college.
During the meeting, which
was In the Elks club at Ashland,
luncheon was served and the
year's work of the organization
was brought to a close. Miss
Annette Gray and Mrs.' Cather
ine Stancliffe reported on the
activities and entertainment at a
recent state convention in Klam
ath Falls. They displayed me
mentos brought back to the chap
ter.
Mrs. Blanche Canode present
ed a completed scrap book rep
resenting a record of the year's
achievements of the chapter. Mrs
Alice Willits paid tribute to An
nie Webbs B lan ton, national
founder of the organization in
observance of Founders day.

nounced that Medford Future
Teachers club would entertain
the Grants Pass club at a recep
tion and that both groups would

Of Phoenix Club
Given on Tuesday
Phoenix Over 125 visitors at
tended the Phoenix Garden club
iris show Tuesday. May 20, ac
cording to Mrs. Olin Poe, chair
man for the event. Assisting her
were Mrs. H. A. Dubuque, Mrs.
George Hartley and Mrs. O. L.
Penland.
Visitors were from Yreka,
Calif., Jerome Prairie, Grants
Pass, Gold Hill, Ashland. Talent,
Central Point and Medford.
A variety of named iris were
shown from Katherine's gardens,
Jacksonville highway, and a
large display of Iris specimens
also was shown from Phillip's
Nursery on South Peach street.
The Central Point Garden
club contributed several arrange
ments and the Jerome Prairie
club showed iris specimens.
The tea table was under the
direction of Mrs. Jewel Parr.
Pouring for the afternoon and
evening were Mrs. E. W. Jer
mark, Mrs. Tom Lowe, Mrs. Wal
ter Grochocki and Mrs. Minnie
Colver. Mrs. Charles Lewis had
charge of the guest book.
Mrs. Tom Lowe has been
named historian for the Phoenix
club for the yeap. Her name was
omitted from a previous an
nouncement of committees.
The club yesterday entered a
float in the May festival parade.
A handkerchief shower was
given for Mrs. W. T. Frost, chair
man, for her leadership during
the year. She presented each of
her officers a corsage and an
nounced the installation of offic
ers of the Woman's Society of
Christian service to be held in
the church Sunday evening
May 25.
Mrs. Louis Bittle led devo
tions and Mrs. Hans Rammin
gave a chapter of the book, "The
Family. A Christian's Concern."
Luncheon was served by Mrs
Zimmerman assisted by Mrs.
Gale Culy.
Visitors were Mrs. R. L. Gla
ther and Mrs. R, F. Stewart.

Workshop Program
Given on Saturday
By Music Students
Second of- a series of work
shop programs was presented by
a group of piano and voice stu
dents of Mrs. Roberta Ward
Bebb Saturday afternoon at her
residence studio.
Fundamentals of music theory,
music appreciation, ear-training
and interpretation were dis
cussed to develop musicianship
and to help the students appreci
ate the cultural character build
ing of all phases of music.
One portion of the program
was devoted to the performance
of the works of the old masters,
including Beethoven, Tchaikov
sky, Grieg, Brahms and Chopin.
Introductory synopses of their
lives were given.
Analyzation of the sonata
form was explained and demon
strated by Dick Crain in his
playing of "Sonata No. 8 In C
Minor" by Beethoven. Barbara
Williams and Mrs. June Chan
cellor Harrison sang. Mrs. Har
rison told the story of the opera
"La Tosca," by Puccini, and sang
an aria from the oiicra "Visi
d'Arte, Visi d'Amore."

Bash, Katherine Gott, Sharon
Roberts, Lois Anne Pike, Nancy
Hamilton, Pat Perry, Judy Bash,
Carolyn Jackson, Anelda Lewis,

Williams and Mrs. Harrison. Re
freshments were served by Mrs.
Bebb.
Dinner
Members of Epsilon Sigma Al
pha sorority met May 19 for a
covered dish dinner in the home
of Mrs. Eloise Winklebleck, 940
Whitman street.
A short business meeting was
held after the dinner. Mrs. Dick
Bowers, Alpha Pi chapter, The
Dalles, was a guest.
