STUMPED BY PROBLEM in plane geometry, Johanna Manklewlcz,

It certainly took television a
long time to come from around
the corner and be available to
the public in general. Twenty.1t
seven years ago, in 1925, Charl
es F. Jenkins conducted a suc-j
cessful television broadcast. In
1928, the General Electric com
pany broadcast a television pro-,
gram in Schenectady three times
a week. At that time David Sar
noff said television would be as
common as radio in home enter
tainment in five years. That
would have made 1933 the year.
But it was not until fifteen years
later that the average family be
gan to think about owning a tel
evision set.
PLEASE NOTE
The claim "nobody loves a fat
man" is definitely erroneous.
The novelist Balzac was a fat
man. As a great lover Balzac
was In the same class as Byron
and Casanova. He figured in in
numerable romantic interludes.
He received many fan letters
from feminine admirers. Three
' of his five major romances orig
inated that way. The writers
were all beautiful, highly intelli
gent women. As for example,
Eveline Hansky, who was 32, of
the Polish nobility and the wife
of a millionaire. She had no idea
what Balzac looked like until
she met him in Switzerland.
That he was a short, fat man
made no difference to her. A
heated romance developed. Bal
zac was stolen from Eveline by
a Parisienne who was one of
those dazzling ash-blondes. Any
way, it is as I have stated. Many
beautiful women fall for fat
men. So, Sir, if you are a little
overweight don't be discourag
ed. You, too, can be a great lov

NERVES
Mary Garden in her autobi
ography stated that never in her
long operatic career had she
been nervous. She added she
had no patience with singers
who were nervous. What Enrico
Caruso had to say on the same
subject follows: "Of course. I am
nervous. Each time I sing I feel
there is someone waiting to de
stroy me and I must fitrht like a
bull to hold my own. The artist
who boasts he is never nervous
is not an artist, he Is a liar and a
fool."

With its 180 HP V-8 engine, on 125 i
inches of wheelbase, many people think
the Saratoga is the best Chrysler car
ofall.
We invite you to take the wheel and
feel what happens! There's a new sense
of easy power, of reserve power that
make driving a new experience.
Inside the engine are reasons for this.
Its revolutionary combustion chamber
develops more of the power in each
charge of fuel than other engines can
do. Its construction is both more sturdy
and more efficient.

Boy Scout Circus
An audience estimated at well
over 3.000 persons witnessed the
second annual Boy Scout Vircus
of the Crater Lake Area council
Saturday night. Some 1,000
Cubs, Scouts and Explorers par

began with the massed entry
of ail boys, and concluded with
a World United demonstra

and a giant world globe.
Scouts from three counties
took part in the circus, which
was held at the high school foot
ball stadium.
Dr. Charles W. Lcmery was
circus chairman, and was assist

manager; Roy Huson and Adam

Franklin, staging, and R. E.
Wicker, grounds. Cliff Hanson,
scout executive for the council,
was coordinator.
The 12 acts included the grand
entry, precision drill on bicycles,
the "Cub Scouts' World," Scout
games, Scout Olympics, Noah's
ark with Cub scouts acting out
a fanciful tale of animals, first
a 1 d, clowns, communications,
rope and timber which featured
a tall tower, derrick and bridge

by scouts from Prospect, camp

Mitzi toured nightclubs, but
avoided playing in movietown.
Finally her husband, director
Joseph Pevney, talked her into a
Job at Ciro's.
"There was some talk of
movie then, but nothing I want

didn't try hard because I was

nobody rehearsed' and I was

Never Wai Child Star
Mitzi doesn't mind not being
the star of "Bloodhounds of
Broadway" because, she says,
she never was a child "star" in
the first place. She figures that's
also the reason why she was one
junior actress who grew up to
be happy. She has 10 years of
marriage and three children to
prove it.
"When I was a kid I never
thought acting was that import

to go out and play with my

"I'd like to do more pictures,
