Fire Regulations
For Coming Season
Will Be Explained
Regulations, old and new, on
lire season operation will be dis
cussed at three meetings sched
uled this month by the state for
est patrol for loggers and saw
mill operators in Jackson and
Josephine counties.
The first session will be on
Wednesday, May 14, at 8 In the
evening at the forest patrol head
quarters on Table Rock road. An
other will be on Thursday eve
ning, May 15, at 8 at the Amer
ican Legion hall at Cave Junc
tion. The third will be in con
junction with a Southern Oregon
Conservation and Tree Farm as
sociation meeting on May 23 at
the country club at Grants Pass.
Emphasis on Enforcement
Emphasis in regulations dis
cussion will be on more strict
enforcement and open refuse
fires.
Amnnff the tonics will be the
definition of operating areas and 1
operators responsibility while in
those areas. Another subject will
be operating permit suspension
areas (closures). A new zoning
system of applying a suspension
order will be explained.
District Warden Ted Maul In
urging attendance of operators,
declared that matters to be taken
up are of great importance. No
tices have been sent to operators
in both counties.
Quarantine Regulations
Told by California
Sacramento The California
Department of Agriculture to
day reminded those taking to
mato, eggplant or pepper plants
from Oregon into California that
they must have Oregon plant
quarantine Inspection certifi
cates. The plants sometimes carry
Colorado beetles, a serious pest
which does not now exist in
California.

announced today. Many alumni
will attend the reunion.

be the speaker, and several
alumni members will be added

County Mounted Sherlff'i posse
queen contest should be made
this week with Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Slate at the Lodge motel,
945 South Riverside avenue,
posse officers said today. The
winner and her princesses will
preside over the 10th annual
Rogue River roundup June 14
and 15 sponsored by the posse.
The contest is open to girls
from 16 to 20 years of age Inclu
sive who are Jackson county
residents and who are not close
relatives of Ladies Mounted
troop or posse members. Mem
bers of the Junior troop are eli
gible. Judge Horiewomanihlp
The contestants will be
judged in particular on their
horsewomanship. Fancy equip
ment will not count, officers said
today. Any additional details
concerning the contest rules
may bo obtained by calling Mrs.
Clarence Dodge, phone 2-5905.
The public is invited to the
judging Sunday afternoon and to
a buffet luncheon preceding at
12:30 p.m. at the posse club
house. Both events will take
place at the posse grounds on
Sage road. A nominal charge
will be made for the luncheon
which will be served by the
Ladies Mounted troop. The days'
events are planned for entertain
ment of entire families and will
include games played on horse
back.

Curtis Hopkins Named
Firm's General Agent
Curtis h. Hopkins, Medford in
surance man, has been named
general agent for the Western
Life Insurance company of Hel
ena, Mont., it was announced
here today.
The announcement was made
by Lee Cannon, agency vice
president of the company, who
said Hopkins will serve Jackson,
Josephine and Curry counties as
general agent. The company has
been represented here in the
past by E. E. Gore as agent, who
will continue to represent the
company in the same capacity.
Hopkins has retained his same
office in the Goldy building,
and the same telephone number,
he said today. He added that he
will continue to service the ac
counts of other companies which
he has represented, and will con
tinue his general insurance coun
seling work. He is equipped to
write life, group, accident and
health, business and estate in
surance, he said.
The general agent has been
in business in Medford for 20
years. He is a member of the
Rogue Valley Underwriters association.
