activity, according' to Harold
Boner, superintendent.
First of the series of meetings
was a PTA session Friday after
noon, and Monday, May 12, a
pre-school clinic will be held at
the school health room begin
ning at 9:30 o'clock In the morn
ing. Appointments are to be
made with Mrs. A. C. Uridel,
telephone 2-5634. It is pointed
out that state law requires the
beginning school child to have
a health examination, and that
the pre-school clinics are pro
vided free of charge by the
county health department.
Beginning children will be
guests of the school Thursday,
May 15. The visit is to begin at
8:55 o'clock In the morning and
lunch will be served free
11:29 o'clock. A program will
be given by pupils in the first
grade. Mothers are asked to
bring their children by 8:53 and
return for them between 11:45
and 12 o'clock.

Movement Broadened
Members of Medford Ameri
can Legion Post No. 15 are mak
ing the Legion's "Back to God"
movement a year-round activity,
it was announced today by Hugh
Williams, post commander.
"The nation which has whole
some family living is a virile na
tion, and the well-being of any
family depends upon the prac
tice of religion and prayer by
its members," according to Ralph
Ettel, chaplain of Post 15, "Fath
er, mother and children need to
worship God. as individuals and
as members of a family group,"
he said.
Cites "Bill of Rights"
An interfaith "spiritual bill
of rights" recently was drawn
up by state chaplains of the
American Legion during their
national conference, the local
chaplain stated. This bill, which
is the basis of the continuing
program, is a "blueprint of
daily spiritual practices to ad
vance such objectives as regu
lar church attendance, family
devotions and religious training
for children," Ettel stated.
The local chaplain recently re
turned from a conference of
Oregon post chaplains held in
Portland.

Soul Hunger Given Credit for
Impetus To Upsurge of Religion

New York (U.R) The anxious
times, a hunger of the soul, the
shattering o a concept, a re
vulsion against recent moral
lapses in public and private life
these may all have given im
petus to the upsurge of religion
in America.
Billy Graham, a 33-year-old
Baptist evangelist who has re
vived the sawdust trial and is
credited with winning 120,000
men and women to the church
in 1950 and 1951, stood on the
Capitol steps in Washington last
February and told a crowd:

"If I would run for President
of the United States today, on
a platform of calling the people
back to God, back to Christ,
back to the Bible, I'd be elected.
There is a hunger for God to
day." More than 2,000,000 persons
have flocked to circus tents and
open parks to hear Graham in
the last year. He believes Ameri
cans are "disgusted and nause
ated" with moral corruption.

that our civilization might come

Episcopal Groups To
Mark Mother's Day
Mother's day observances will
be conducted in both depart
ments of St. Mark's Episcopal
church Sunday school May 11,
it was announced this week by
Robert Dames, superintendent.
Small orchids will be present
ed each mother in attendance,
and prizes will be given for the
mother attending with the most
children, and for children at
tending with a grandmother. Re
freshments will be served.
Guide To Conduct
Services in the senior and In
termediate department will be
conducted by the Acolyte guild
under the direction of Mrs. J. A.
McDougall, acolyte mother, and
Don Robinson of the senior
school will, speak.
Mrs. Jack Walker, junior de
partment superintendent, will
conduct services there.
Both services will begin at
9:30 a. m. The Rev. George R.
V. Bolster, rector, will visit both
departments during the morning.
