files want to spread their taxes
over a number of years on
grounds that their careers die as
soon as the wrinkles arrive.
"This law should apply also
to baseball players, fighters and
anybody whose career depends
on youth explained Giesler who
works on the program as head
of the Beverly Hills Bar Associ
ation. ' "They may make those large
sums of money for only five or
ten years. Then their active
working life is concluded. They
can't continue in that high in
come bracket like doctors and
lawyers.
"Some stars, still are paying
their income taxes from five
years ago. They've really got the
yoke around their necks. A new
tax ruling would be fair and
equitable."
Last year Bob Hope staged a
one-night stand tour to raise
money to pay his taxes. Joan
Bennett can't leave the country
because she owes the Internal
Revenue department a mittful of
cash. - The government put up
Veronica Lake's home for sale
to try to raise money to pay her
debt to -Uncle Sam.

Ashland A preview of the
spring play by the Southern
Oregon college drama depart
ment will be presented Satur
day evening as part of the Moth
ers Week-end celebration. A
reading of. George Bernard
Shaw's "Candida" will be of
fered by cast members.
Angus L. Bowmer, professor
of English, is director of the
comedy and describes it as one
of the most delightful by the
Engish playwrite. Four perform
ances are scheduled May 16,
and 17 and May 23 and 24.
Participating In the reading
will be Charles C. Eliason, Ash
land; Kay Davis, Grants Pass;
Nanete Cuddie, Klamath Falls;
Robert Knott, Eugene; and
Stafford Thomas, Melbourne,
Australia. Leon C. Mulling, as
sociate professor of speech will
understudy for Robert Hilliard,
Seattle.
Meeting Announced
For Sams Valley Club
At Sanderson Home
Sams Valley Sam's Valley
Ladies' club mill meet at the
home of Mrs. C. C. Sanderson
Thursday afternoon, May 15,
at 1:30 o'clock. Dessert will be
served.
Last meeting of the club was
held at the home of Mrs. Mary
Marsh. In observance of Moth
er's Day, the secret pal basket
was heaped with cards and gifts'
for everyone.
Mrs. Harry Musson took
charge of the games, with Moth
ers' day as the theme. Several
readings were given on this
theme. Refreshments were
served by the hostess to end the
afternoon.
As early as 66 B.C. the Lib
yans and Cushites built light
houses or "Pharos."
Stamp Club Plans '
Show This Month
Further plans for the stamp
exhibition and show, set for May
24, are being made by the Junior
Y Stamp club, which meets each
Saturday at the YMCA.
Sims and Wade Harmon,
stamp dealers, have donated
stamp prizes for each division in
the show and a grand award for
the best of the first prize win
ners. Three members of Southern
Oregon Stamp club have been
selected as judges for the show.
Each club member may enter
each division if he wishes to,
and the judging will be on neat
ness, originality, accuracy and

rope," shrugged Giesler. "If Con
gress doesn't pass a new tax law
there won't be arty movie stars
left here."
